Its been a while since I read any Tintin books...so I thought why not?

So what if the Description says "Reading level: Ages 9-12" I think I would still qualify, though I am a decade older than the upper limit.

hehe. Hopefully the books will arrive by next weekend.

Any fellow-Tintin Fans??

the last tintin book i had was the one where he goes to space and it was a popup book.

Them stories were depressing [to me as a kid].

Tintin was good but Asterix and Oublix (sp?) was better. Man..does that ever bring back childhood memories.
Yeah: nice lil Childhood memories... I likes Asterix and Obelix too.. but Tintin was a little more hillarious.

thats the one.

Asterix & Obelix are incredibly funny. I can still read them & laugh. Its been said."The difference between the cultured person and the non-cultured person is that the cultured person only picks her nose when nobody can see. The cultured person don't read comics when others see either of course. The only exception is that one can dare being seen with is Asterix."

Which books did you order?

My wife introduced me to Tintin, I must admit that I really liked it. Only problem now is that we got "Tintin in the Land of the Soviets" which is in French (title too, I just translated it for you), but I can't read a thing in French, and she doesn't do a good job of translating it. The English language version is edited and misses some pages from the original French one. Also, Tintin in the Congo has been edited to remove the scene where Tintin is teaching the "natives" about the "fatherland". And it is difficult to find an original, but I have until November to get one for our anniversary, and her birthday is just before Christmas, so I'm still looking.

The best I can tell, is that only a few episodes were done in English (not all). I know they are available in PAL format from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, but I didn't find it on their online shop. I do remember seeing them in some of the larger bookstores in Australia though.

If you look hard enough, you can find all of the episodes in Swedish (the titles are in Swedish, I never bothered to find out if the characters spoke English).

I got the following : (2 sets of 3 books each)
The Adventures of Tintin Vol6-Calculus Affair,Red Sea Sharks & Tintin Tibet

The Adventures of Tintin Vol3-Tintin in America/Cigars of the Pharaoh/the Blue Lotus

In case you are looking for vcds ( I was too, but they are a bit too expensive for me 🙂) I saw a couple of deals on ebay. Also some guy selling a 21-VCD set (English and Malay subtitles?? I dont seem to remember)

There are always Tintin vcds or videotapes on ebay. I've been looking at them for a while, always toying with the idea, but never went for them.

There are a couple of Tintin movies that have been made, that I'd like to track down for the wife. ("Tintin in the Lake of Sharks" is one that comes to mind). There even was a non-cartoon Tintin movie made (in French), but I have yet to see anything more than a reference to that one.

Those 3 book sets are nice, even if they are smaller than the originals (which is what my wife prefers), but they leave out the first two Tintin books, which aren't easy to find (Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, Tintin in the Congo). They have been recently re-released in French, and the first one in English (not sure about Congo), but they have edited out some pages, so they miss some things from the original comic strip.

There are some good websites with all of this info (and more) out there, it's been a while since I visited them. One in particular that I remember (I have no idea where it is anymore) talks about parts that have been edited out of newer edition books. Quite interesting reading for true Tintin fans.

I did find (on Kazaa) some Tintin audio, apparently from a radio program. I never did listen to it, so I don't know what language it was, I think it was French, but I may be wrong. I can always put them back into Kazaa for the interested. 🙂

Tintin kicked ass. I read them when I was like 8-11... and I understood them too 🙂 Aww memories 🙂

You guys are making me want to go read them again. I LOVED the one with him in the Congo. What was the one where the fake camera was used to shoot the sceptar across the wall?

Damn you. I can see myself tracking down Tintin and Asterix books now. Wan't the druids name Getafix or something funny like that?

And Damn you too..I can see myself buying Asterix Books now ..🙂

Damn you guys! We don't have that many Asterix books, but I'm feeling like that has to change soon! Sh!t!!!! I had to start posting in here, and now it's going to cost me money!

If you can read French, there are some "pirate" Tintin books floating around the 'net. (not written by Herge). I have no idea if they are any good, as I can't read them, but I would imagine they are good for novelty value only. (There's even at least one adult Tintin pirate book.)
