GF4 Ti4200 is fairly cheap, around $40.
The ATI9200SE is also pretty good, around $35..

will these let me play BF2? I need the CHEAPEST card that will work with BF2. I don't mind playing at the lowest settings at 800x600x32, but what card works?

Recommendations? Maybe a GF4 4600?

My current video card is a GF3 Ti200 64MB passively cooled. I just want a small small upgrade, nothing too fancy or expensive.

if you want cheap x600
Edit: oops I wast thinking 6600, I always have ATI on my mind.....lol

it's not likely he has a pci-e motherboard if he was considering a GF4 card, so the x600 will not work.

Thanks for your help. Basically I want a vid card to play this game, then I'd be selling off the vid card. I don't do much gaming (at all) but I would like to try out BF2.

What about the 9200SE for $35? or for $10 more I could get a 5200.. but I've been so out of the video card market I don't know what's better.

If you have the money go for the 6800. With any luck, you'll be able to unlock it and convert it to a 6800 Ultra. :)

wait a little while and wait for the market to stabilize. ati just dropped prices on x8xx series and prices should come down for 9800 pro.

Hold on guys you are getting a bit excited....he wants something in the $50-$60 range that will let him play BF2......don't think the 6800's are in that range yet.....

9600 pro is probably the best bet.....

You will have trouble under $100 finding a card with enough juice for any of the modern titles, let alone BF2 (even at lower settings)

I'd look at finding a used 9800 Pro at a minimum. Or find another $40-$50 and go with a 6600GT.

My GF3 Ti200 can play GTA:SA, BF...

Granted, I haven't played Far Cry or Halo on it, but it can handle San Andreas OK.

Thanks for the help Kensai - by still picture, you just mean low FPS, right?

no he dosn't mean low FPS. A Ti 4200 will simply NOT run BF2 unless you hack it. Its something built into the game....

personally if i were you i would get a used 9800pro. i can play at 800x600x4AA and have acceptable fps.

i just ordered a x800xtpe and will be selling my 9800pro shortly after my new card arrives :)

and you are also going to need to up your ram to atleast 1GB. i hit 970MB total used ram when playing - 250MB when the machine is idle and 970MB after a bf2 game.

Sorry, I was talking about 9200SE. " 9200SE will play you a BF2 still picture. "

So for the 9200SE, still picture = no go? Or just low FPS?

I guess 9800 pro is the minimium then? Or 9600...

I guess I'm gonna be looking for a 9800 pro then, unless someone can confirm the 9600 works as well.

What's the Nvidia equiv of the 9800pro?

You should be looking at the ati 9xxx gen or the Nvidia 5xxx and 6xxx gen, for your price range.

I'd say, get a 9600Pro used.

Get a GeForce FX 5700LE you can find them for ~$50-$60. I use one for my Shuttle when I am gaming over at a friends not a bad card and it gets the job done even if the job looks ugly.

Get at least a used 9500 pro. The 9500 Pro is better than any 9600 series. Best bet is to fing a used 9500 pro and OC it or get a used 9800 Pro with an r360 core so you can hack it to 9800 XT speeds.

I can play battlefield with my PNY 5200Ultra with low settings and 1024x resolution pretty well. 32vs32 servers ill usually get 20-30 fps if that helps you any. still I would consider saving up a little more for a better card.

GF4s will give you a blank screen. (No DX9 support)

92xx are still DX8.1 support since they are R8500 chips. you need a fx5500 or 9500 at least to play it. 9600pro(128mb is minimum requirements) to play it decently well.
I'd say since yuo are tight for money, a 9700pro could be had fro cheap and it will paly BF2 decently.
