Got BF1942 today

I'm not much of a gamer really, but I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I spent the day crashing planes and getting blown up in alot of interesting ways. Enjoyable though, but definitely a bigass timewaster. 🙂

The guy at Walmart looked at the game, then he looked at me.
HIM "Do you have any idea what kind of graphics card you have?"
ME "yep"
HIM:"What kind?"
ME:"Ummm, I think i t's called a Radeon 9700 pro or something like that...."
HIM: Long look..."Oh, you should be fine". LOL

Wait until version 1.4 comes out. It should balance the game a bit. The worst part of the game is the human aspect. People are unbelievably stupid on-line.

That comment about a timewaster is very true. I got it last week and haven't done a whole lot with my free time except that.
 
The only thing I dont like is that fact that the blown up tanks dissapear. I wanted to use one for cover, but then I see I'm in the open. BLAM.
 
Make sure to download Desert Combat mod, it's a blast. As someone already pointed out, there are plenty of idiots who can ruin a good gaming experience. Luckily, there are plenty of servers to choose from.
 
Here are some tips:

-Lead your shots. About a foot with the sniper rifle when they are running. The game does have bullet travel time
-Hit tanks in the rear for the biggest damage.
-Grenades suck for blowing up tanks, don't waste your time.
-If you're the scout, scout. Use your binoulars to spot for artillery.
-Plane campers are a good way to get kills.
-If your vehicle's engine stops, get out.
-Engineer's explosive packs are great for killing tanks. Use three of them.
-Aim for the head for more damage.
-Capturing flags is vital to winning.
-If you see a unit coming towards a base, use the radio calls to let everyone know.
-The APC is very, very easy to flip.
-Aim for the engines of planes. Hitting the wings does near-zero damage.
-You can pick up landmines and explosive packs as the engineer by sqatting and using the wrench.
-You can't repair things while squatting.

Is anyone else's chat feature in BF1942 lagged? I'll type something in and like 5 minutes later the replies from that I type finally fly by on the screen and I'll have to use the console and page up to see what was said. This is for the most part what happens, occasionally there'll be a couple players whose responses are not lagged.
 
A few other random tips:

Learn how to use the artillery pieces. (Hint: they're not tanks). You can hit things from literally the other side of the map if someone scouts for you provided you have a bit of practice aiming them. Very handy for shelling bases, bridges, etc to slow the enemy down or weaken them allowing your teammates to grab a control point. I'll sometimes grab the arty and drive it to a remote location and start calling for scouts. Since you're sitting in an essentially uncontested area, enemy foot traffic is almost nil and you're free to shell away once you get some scouting.

When scooting down a very steep incline, turn around so you face the hill as you descend....you'll take less or no damage this way.

Try playing as an engineer or medic. Engy's in particular are very, very handy on certain maps. If you can keep a bridge filled with mines and expacks, the enemy tanks and troops are sitting ducks for your assault guys as they pick their way across. I'll usually load up a bridge with mines and then hide behind the tanks that are helping to defend the bridge and repair them as they take hits from the enemy tanks coming across.

If you need to clear a pillbox, use a grenade and not an anti-tank round. AT rounds have very little splash damage while a grenade will almost always kill everyone inside a pillbox or other structure.
 
If there are a bunch of your team mates sitting around waiting for a plane or chopper, feel free to frag their sorry asses. i do all the time, Tking is ghey, but plane camping is worse.

You can take kit you see lying on the ground. Default key for "pitch your kit and grab the one on the ground" is "G" IIRC.

that is soo true, once I was in one of the desert maps on a 64 player server, the enemy team had one flag left and my team were going to it on foot and tanks. I was there first, on foot, threw a few granades at the pillbox and one of them just happened to go inside and about a second before it blew up their entire team spawned 😀
got lots and lots and lots of kills for that 😀
 
I wish the friendly bots weren't so stupid in this game, you have to kill some of them just to get them to leave the base, and they do JACK when fighting. I hate being the deciding factor in winning or loosing in a war game with 30 + people fighting.

Soon. There's a "non-final" version out now, so the "official" version must be close. A few good changes listed on the EA site.

*Tank Repair exploit - tanks will no longer be able to make repairs in the airplane hanger.

*Improved voting UI - the voting interface has been improved.

*Cheats - we will be implementing features to address many of the cheats currently being seen in BF1942 games.

*Linux Server

*Two new guns -- The DP 1928 - Japanese Assault rifle and the Type 99 - Russian Assault rifle.

*New and improved sounds in 1st person view, such as increased volume of impacts, louder grenade explosions and a new sound for the Axis Assault rifle STG44.

*Scoreboard now shows current server's name, IP address and map name. Scoreboard also shows each player's ID number, which is used for creating your buddy list/voting to kick a player.

*Rear gunner for Stuka/SBD/Ai-chi-val now has crosshair.

*Incremental patching will be available for clients (smaller 1.31-1.4 download)

*Added a new blood effect for additional feedback when you are hitting another soldier.
