Got bad results in courses

I am a Freshman in university , doing BS(computer engineering) ,these were my results for 1st semester :

Basic electrical engineering --- F(expected) 0GP
Electrical lab -------------------- A- 3.67GP
Calculus ------------------------ D(expected could be F) 1GP
Programming for engineers --- A+ 4GP
Programming lab --------------- A+ 4GP
History -------------------------- B+(expected) 3.33GP
Physics for engineers ---------- B+ 3.33GP

i am so frustrated by these results ,there is possibility that i have to repeat BEE and Calculus . What can i do to improve my grades next semester ? any suggestions?

Our BEE teacher was an ass ... many times i had heated arguments with him.

Identify your problems is the first step in improving your grades.

Are you going to class? By the looks of it, you didn't for at least 2 of them. Basically, if you go to every single class, you'll be extremely hard pressed to get below a C in the most difficult of courses.
Are you doing the homework assignments/projects? Again, as long as you're going to class and attempting these assignments, you should be getting at least a C.
Are you studying outside of class? Even if you don't go to class, in many easier courses you can pull at least a C if not an A if you just cram outside of class. Not recommended, but people do take this route.
Are you doing none of the above? Well that's why you got a D and an F.

That's your reason for your bad grade in BEE. Rule #1, NEVER argue with the teacher/professor. Even if you win the argument, you lose on your grade. It's just not worth it.

Yes and no. If your assignments aren't subjectively graded, then you can argue all you want. It's quite simple to take all of your scantron graded tests or quizzes during an Audit and have your grade changed and the Prof. disciplined.

Although you still shouldn't piss off your Profs.

my attendance was almost full in all courses but i have to admit i was not practicing BEE(i copied some of assignments) and calculus enough .
The BEE's teacher had a weird style of teaching things he failed 110 students of 150 in my batch , it was is his first year in my university and in the end of semester he was so pissed off that he failed of me and my mates and refused to upgrade and then he resigned.
I even went to the Head of department, to complain about this teacher but he took no action .

If the teacher failed 110 out of 150 students, there is something severely wrong with his course. Fvck the head of your department, go straight to the Dean of the college.

And he resigned? That should throw up red flags all around. A teacher fails more than 2/3s of the class and resigns...:roll:

About 50-70 (including me) students went to the Head of department after seeing the results and it was kind of a protest , after this incident no one really doesn't know what happened but the results of all students were withdrawn from the grading software, i can only hope now.

Honestly, I would hope the University reimburses you for any expenses incurred as a result of the course (or waives the fee the second time around) and opens up extra seats in this semester's class, or pays for the cost of summer classes so students won't be behind in their degree.

Most of my professors would include some kind of clause within the syllabus to the effect of 'I reserve the right to modify a final grade up or down one grade level depending on a number of subjective factors'. Lacking that, they'd include 'participation' (which amounted to the same thing).

Yep. That's why grading has to be completely objective for you to be able to get away with arguing. None of the participation or reserving the right to change grades.

As another poster said, if going to the head of the department doesn't end up having the situation remedied, go to the Dean of Students, Dean of Academic Affairs, some other Dean, or straight to the university President himself/herself. This definitely sounds like an odd situation deserving of further administrative review.

since your other grades are decent, after considering if you really want to do CE I'd recommend you take the following steps:

1. see an academic councellor to find out how to structure next year to take the classes you need over again and what courses you can fit in as well

2. get some help from your university. They often have workshops you can do to get good study habits or you can seek out a tutor

good luck and don't give up!
