How much does this the LASIK procedure run about?

The place I went to, the "standard" procedure is $2k. To have the "Wavefront" analysis also adds $800 to it. Insurance covered the standard only.

I am 25 years old, 26 in october. They prefer you be over 18, under 40, (at least this place did) and your prescription to have been "steady" for at least a year or so.

If you don't like having your eyes touched, I don't know how well you'd do. Obviously, you don't feel anything in the way of actual touching on your eyes. But the fact that you know it's happening, and may or may not be able to see it happening, might be enough to wig you out.

Had my pre-op yesterday, to determine if I was a good candidate. Everything went  So next Wednesday @ 6pm I'm in there.

Anyone have it done? I'm kind of nervous, yet at the same time, the line, "Mini me, stop humping the laser" keeps running thru my head.

Anyway, decided to get it done less than a month ago. Long story short, my wife's medical coverage (which i'm covered under) is covering the procedure 100% until 10/1 when the plan changes. So I guess there are/were a bunch of people trying to get in there. 2 people from her store were already turned down tho!

On a side note, my eyes are still all jacked up from the exam yesterday. Can't see up close with or without my glasses on, pupils are dilated to the max. 🙁

UPDATE 9/30/04 11:25am PSTSounds great, congrats! I wonder why they wouldn't just give you a painkiller though, instead of valium?

Well, procedure was actually very easy, albeit very wierd. They put this suction on your eye. Feels like someone pushing on your eye. Not like someone poking your eye and pushing, but think palm on your eye pressing fairly hard. The pressure gets to the point where your eye actually blacks out. Then they did the keratome and made the "flap". It was wierd as I could "see" them lift the flap back. Then the doc "wiped away moisture" which again, was wierd as I saw the brush or whatever it was going across my eye. Then the laser was really unobtrusive. It made a really loud obnoxious clicking noise, but it was basically like looking at a blinking/flashing light.

Felt fine for about an hour or two afterwards, was blurry, kind of hazy. then as the topical anesthesia (sp?) wore off, it was friggin hell for 6-8 hours. They gave me valium, which some people I spoke to said it pretty much knocked them out. Well, it had little effect on me. Some people say it feels like sand in your eye. Well, it felt like I had a fricken beach in my eyes. Every time I fell asleep, I'd wake up maybe 30 min later, then spend another hour trying to go back to sleep. I woke up around 3am (procedure done about 6pm) and the discomfort was all but gone. Got up again for my follow up @ 7am. Everything felt fine, vision noticably clear. Had my checkup, vision checked out at 20/15!!!

All in all, i'm very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone. 🙂😀
