Hi all,

I've noticed that alot of folks are OCing their venice athlons to 2.6-8 ghz on stock and I'm wondering if I could use stock HSF to OC my 3800 to 2.4+ghz. I know there is a world of difference in the cores, but I'm trying to go budget and if don't need to spend an extra $40 on a HSF then why do it...

What kind of OC am I looking at with stock? Any x2 3800 owners want to comment?

Thanks

If your case temp isn't too warm and your X2 doesn't require too much voltage to hit the overclock you want, 2.4-2.5ghz isn't a problem on stock cooling.

I use the Cu/Al cooler that came with my old skt754 3000+ newcastle witn mine, and have a fairly warm room temp of 76f, I hit 52-54c under 24/7 2xEinstein@Home load running 2.5ghz 1.36v. The fan spins approx. 4000rpm and is audible but not what I'd call loud.

Just keep the vcore at 1.4v or below, and see how high you can go and that the full load temps are. Take it from there.
