I'm looking for good cooling capability & ease of installation (installing the dang heatsink looks difficult as is). It's for the rig in my sig. Wanna take that mobile higher in the Summer heat.

Right now I'm looking at this

BTW, any tips on installing this SLK w/b greatly appreciated. The instructions on the website makes it look much more difficult than any other HS I've installed

Thanks

Hmm, do you have one of those neo backplates? I think I remember that it was necessary for an NF7-S revision 2. And the fan depends on your preference. Personally I'd go with a Panaflo because I can't take too much noise.

The link was fan with 1 ball bearing and 1 sleeve.

My suggestion is to go with dual ball bearing fan = longer mbtf life and higher rpm capability.

www.bestbyte.net has the best fan selection and prices.

For installation:
I believe Thermalright website lists links of reviews for each product and one of those links is a video review and they show installation.

Thanks everybody,

Yeah, pretty loud at top speed, but I figure the game noise will drown it out anyway (I'm guessing/hoping here)

OK, I'll look for two ball bearings.

I'll go back to the thermalright site. The instructions I found there were photos and schematics. I'll look for the video. Just looks like a lot of parts in the kit for a HS. How to tell p4 from amd? I'm guessing trial & error, i.e. what fits and what don't.

There is a web site that did a comparison on the 947 (may have been the 948) between 92mm and 80mm. I believe the best performance/loudness points was a Panaflo 92 M1A fan. That is what I have and it performs very well and is nearly inaudible outside of my system. The best 92mm fan is the Vantec Tornado 92mm, but it is loud.

As for installation on the NF7-S you need to do one of three things:
1) buy the Neo backplate for $5
2) Bend three of the capacitors about 1 mm
3) take out your dremel (or a file) and shave off the little 1mm nub on the mounting bracket on the 947.

Note that these should only need to be done if your 947 touches the capacitors. This really is precautionary only as the system will work. It is just to prevent a electric charge from going from the capacitor to the heatsink mounting bracket which I am told by the Thermalright tech support can actaully happen though chances are low of it happening.

Thanks magratton,

I'll check out the fans, and I've got a dremel, so I'll keep it nearby.

Do not get a thermaltake!!! They have really gone down the tubes lately. I would highly recommend Panaflo, L1a (80mm) or M1A (92mm).
