Got an interview tomorrow, looking for suits

So I've got an interview (more meeting really, but it is about a job) and my gf really wants me to get a suit. I think she's getting desparate for me to get a job, LOL.

So she's found good prices on reasonable looking suits @ Men's Warehouse & JC Penney. Any other places to check?

Any brands to avoid?

I personally prefer to do lots of research and shopping to find the right one for the money, even if it involves spending a little more money for the good stuff. I hate rushing into purchases, especially ones that stay with you for a while like a suit.

Would it maybe be just as good to get some nice slacks & a sport coat or whatever for the interview? Then invest in a good suit once I have some money?

Suggestions?

EDIT
People who have bought the cheap suits: how do you like the quality and fit?

That's what I'd do.

i say go throw a good suit on the credit card. it will pay off in the long run. it's always good to have 1 nice suit for situations like this. i've gone to about 5-6 interviews in the past month and worn the same suit every time. even on the day it was 100+ i still wore it, and when at the interview the guy said "i really appreciate you took the time to get all dressed up and very professional on a day as hot as today, it shows good spirt. but take off your jacket because you and I both know it's too hot to be wearing that thing."

Well technically the gf or gf's Mom may buy a decent suit for me as a belated graduation present. If it comes down to money, they'll help me regardless. I just hate buying things on such short notice, esp something this permanent. I really don't have time to go full out shopping for a good suit, I've only got tonight really. I work all day up till the interview tomorrow

Heh I say do it. I bought my suit the day before I had my interview which landed me the current job I'm at right now. I actually got it from the mens warehouse. It was like $300 I believe and is a Perry Ellis.

Why did you add a "show me the results" choice when you can just click the "view results" button?

Anyway I voted for a suit. It will pay off in the end.

How was the quality? I realize I can always buy another nice suit later, I just hate buying things on a whim.

It had an original price of either $600 or $700 ... very nice quality, I've used it plenty of times since then.

quickest solution: get slacks and a sport coat. make sure you they fit, so you can avoid ordering alterations.

generally, when you buy a suit, you will very likely have to get some alterations. since your interview is tomorrow, you don't have the time for that sort of thing.

My own opinion is that Nordstrom Rack is probably the best value in tailored clothes as a general matter, assuming you have one near you. You can get a perfectly nice Joseph Abboud or Kenneth Cole suit there for less than $300. I wouldn't spend less than that on a suit.

I will also say, though, that a sport coat and slacks is fine for most interviews, particularly in summertime. It really depends on whether you're applying for a job where you will routinely wear a suit at work.

Thanks, I'll look into them. The work environment of this place I'd say is pretty lax and casual, so I'd imagine the VP I'm meeting will be wearing slacks+shirt+tie. It just wouldn't hurt to make this one count, this is the job I really want! Just scheduled the meeting today tho unfortunately

just remember this ...

you only have 1 first impression, and it's better to be overdressed than underdressed.

Got a Brooks Brothers near you? That's where I'd go. I've got 2 great suits from them. One dark grey for interviews and one black for weddings / funerals.

I completely agree. I think suit it is, I really want this ****** job!

Got a Brooks Brothers nearby, I'll hit them up.

The only Nordstrom I have nearby is the full store, not the "Nordstrom Rack" and its in one of the higher end malls, so I'm assuming that place won't have the good prices?

Thanks all
