Got an interview through a recruiter, probably got the job...how would I negotiate salary?

A recruiter called me up and set me up with an interview for a job, just got back from the interview and aced it. Who knows if I got the job, but I don't see why they wouldn't offer it to me.

If the recruiter does say I got the job, there's no reason why I can't negotiate salary right? Am I stuck getting paid from the recruiting firm forever?

the recruiter doesnt pay your salary, the company who hired you does.... the recruiter just get a one-time pay for helping the company find resources....

so yes you can negotiate with the company for more salary

Explain to the company your qualifications and maybe do some research on what the market salary is for your position. You can even talk about how leaving your current job (if you're currently employed) will be tough to do and maybe include extra commute time if that's relevant. Negotiating salary is a bit tricky.

When I first moved to NoVa I used cost of living as my excuse. After that the company quickly agreed and gave me the amount I asked for.

recruiters I've worked with in the past got a percentage of my starting salary (paid by the hiring company). so it was in their best interest to make sure I got $$$.
