there is a little thing on my motherboard with tuny switches that you must configure correctly to correspond with the FSB of the CPU on it. the AMD Athlon XP 2000 has 266MHz FSB and this motherboard has max 200. so i set it to 200, and the computer will not start up. i try 166 and 133...nothing. i had to bring it down to default settings -- 100MHz and its performing at 1.25GHz instead and 1.67GHz, and i see the diff immensly, as i had a Sempron 2400+ prior to this with the same stock frequency.

the motherboard is ASUS A7V400-MX. yes, i know there was a problem with the manual and the FSB setting, and i have the revised one, so i'm doing that part correctly. this is a socket A board.

what do i do? i want my speed back!!

did it in less then 15 seconds and it WORKED!!! THANKS SOOO MUCH BONOZO!!!

and for the record, no there is no auto setting as the alterations need to be done physically to a tiny box thing attached to the motherboard.

thanks for the REALLY quick fix!
