Got a widescreen tv today :)

And I LOVE it 🙂

I bought it from overstock.com last monday and it was delivered today!

It is a JVC AV48WP74 refurb but the manufacture date is less than a year ago, they had it listed for $1154.99 and I found a $45.00 off coupon, delivery charge? $2.95 😀 total delivered to my living room in just over a week price $1112.99 with full JVC warranty and Amex doubled warranty term 😀😀😀

They delivered it right about 2:00 this afternoon and since then I have watched 2 movies (took an hour or so to get all the home theater stuff hooked back up)

First movie I watched was Monsters INC. with my wife and son, it was just ridiculously amazing how good it looked, and the size of the picture blows me away, after watching wide screen movies on a 32inch 4:3 tv with the tiny little rectangle in the middle this 48inch wide screen at 1080i is dazzling.

The second movie was LOTR-ROTK, equally spectacular and such a different experience compared to the other times I watched on the square screen.

I was a little concerned about buying a refurb, and about having a wstv shipped from Louisiana, I was worried about the cosmetic condition of a refurb and about the possibility of shipping damage, but the set arrived in perfect condition.

Lots of neat features, split screen, multi POP puts one channel in a 4:3 size and previews 3 channels on the right side, and index mode gives you previews of 12 channels.

This set has a DVI input and I want to try using the DVI on my fx5900 for some wide screen computing and viewing movies from my computer, is there anything special I need to do? do I just get a 10-12 foot dvi cable and hook it up? it would be nice if I could have simultaneous display on my computer monitor and on the tv, can the fx5900 do that?

Another benefit in getting this set is that we got rid of the 80's style craptastic entertainment center and have a nice looking audio rack that puts the displays of the components out of your line of sight while watching tv.

Thanks, I have been drooling over this tv since the first version of it came out about two years ago at $2300.00 but I am a cheapass and never pay full pop for anything.

I could get HDTV, Cox has HD service but I dont know if I want to spend that much for it, I have limited basic and no box right now, cost is $12.00 a month plus the internet service, total is $46.00 a month including all the taxes and fees, hd would push it up toward $100.00 by the time you add in the box, and expanded basic, and digital so you can get HD 🙁

I cant get a dish because of the location of my condo, I have no place to mount a dish where it would get a signal 🙁

Ah, that's too bad. Well, if you are close enough to the towers, you may be able to get by with an indoor antenna. I can actually get almost all of the locals here with a Zenith Silver Sensor. 🙂 Free over the air HD is awesome.

How far are you?

Thanks for the link, I will have to try OTA HDTV and see how it works, got quite a list of stations from your link............

Hmm. My suggestion would be to go to Best Buy and pick up a Silver Sensor indoor antenna and an OTA HDTV box. Give it a try. You can always return it if it doesn't work.

Cut that list down to just digital stations.

What's the span of ° and miles are they?

I too have an 47 inch HDTV. Love it to death. But I dont watch TV.

HD ripped movies are awesome on it though.

You dont really have to get it calibrated by a professional, unless youre hardcore like that.

AVIA, a sound level meter, and good eyes are all you need.

Nice. 17-21 miles away, between 77 and 87 degrees for all but 2 (PAX and IND, which you probably won't watch anyway). Do you have a clear view of that direction? Might not be completely necessary with your very short distances, but it'll help.

You may as well give it a try.

Well, I just realized that this tv would need a tuner for hdtv as well as an antenna 🙁 going have to think about this a bit more before I lay out cash just to try it out.

Too bad you missed out on that Best Buy Samsung T165/T151 clearance not too long ago. $99 was a great deal.

most of the new sets with DVI inputs specifically state in the manual that the DVI input is not compatible with a PC. should look there to see if it is doable...

congrats on the TV though...any :camera:'s??

It's ALWAYS doable. 🙂 The only restriction is what settings you have to use.
