Got a Vita - Now what?

I had one at launch, Unit 13 is a pretty good shooter game. I ended up selling mine though, just not enough games for it coming out.

I would advise selling it but dont know if you will get much for it. I put mine on ebay and it went unsold for 50 below msrp, ended up selling on amazon for 75 below retail - fees, which ended up being a very bad investment.

If you enjoy the Assassin's Creed series, they are releasing a Vita-only game for it when AC3 comes out. I wonder if Sony had to pull a few strings to get them to release the game as a ploy to pull people to the console. :hmm:

Buy Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack, play it, and THEN maybe consider selling it.

I got mine on CL for pretty cheap, and I use it enough to enjoy it. Mortal Kombat, Rayman, Pinball Arcade, MvC 3 are all decent games. It desperately needs more games, but for free I'd just hang on to it.

I don't know why sony struggles so much with getting devs on board with their new stuff. They come out with capable hardware and then waste it by doing nothing important with 1st party stuff or pushing 3rd party devs. Same thing happened with the Move.

It's even worse when there are still PSP games being released in Japan that are easily hitting the top 5 in sales. Sony needs to nip that in the bud!

the Vita is a total failure

It's not a total failure but it is the PSP all over again. Sony is making the exact same mistakes. And you can't blame piracy this time. For some reason, developers treat portables as a second class system so a lot of third party games are low quality. Nintendo systems survive due to strong first and second party titles. Sony doesn't have that. There's no way Resistance: Burning Sky should have a 59 on Metacritic. It's a first party title from a core franchise, designed to demo the system, and it's a bad game. Which leads me to the second problem of Sony trying to rehash console games for portables. You can't do that. Portable games have to be playable in bit sized chunks. People want their Angry Birds on the go. They'll play console games at home on the big TV. Sony needs to get their act together on the game side, get themselves a high quality killer app, and you'll see the Vita take off. It also needs apps to compete with smartphones.

NAH... Its a failure..... 3 kids here at work have them. 2 sold..... One has an INCH of dust on it..... And ALL three have at least 2 systems.....
Either 360 and PS3. 360 and PC. PS3 and PC.... So I consider them gamers.

I seriuosly tried talking one into the COMBO pack of the Madden game. I said with your hour lunch break, you could play many seasons and dump your results back home on the base station..... Apparently the combo pack is 85 US? WOW.....

I think Sony has potential with cross platform games but they aren't leveraging it. At least cross platform SAVES, like in MLB The Show. Certain console based games can be decently replicated in the Vita but there needs to be a point.

Decided to keep it. mainly because I can sell my psp go, transfer most of my current games I haven't beat, and enjoy the bigger screen.

my 'upgrade' costs wont be very high.

I sold my PS3 and picked up a Vita and I love it. Sure, currently the library isn't as robust but it's been out only 5 months.

I have Hot Shots Golf, Tales from Space, Pinball, and a bunch of PSP games I picked up and I am enjoying it quite a bit. I don't game as much as I used to due to work and family responsibilities but it is great to have a handheld readily available for quick sessions.

Oh btw, Atlus is having 50% sale on PSP games until end of the month at PSN, so pick up some games on the cheap, such as Persona 3 Portable for $10. I paid full price for it and worth every penny.

Any game system is only as good as it's games. That said I would definitely wait for AC: Liberation and at least give that a try. Are you into Uncharted at all?

The Vita has so much potential but the market no longer supports sophisticated portable games it seems. The market has moved to free or $2 games like Angry Birds. I would love to have something like Mass Effect or a new Final Fantasy, but who is going to sink millions into development for a shrinking audience of enthusiasts.

Why not be smart and try to pull in the developers? There are premium games on iOS and Android, but Sony needs to see if they can pull them into their ecosystem too. Also, avoid the usual "real gaming system tax" where the same game on the console costs 2-3x as much as it did on the original system. Try and push these as digital downloads as well.

A good example would be Square-Enix's Chaos Rings (and its sequel). Other than not having FMVs (and using touch), they aren't much different than console RPGs.

Game companies also need to take into account that many parents have disabled the internet functions in game systems due to the insanity people say/type online while playing. Thus, downloadable games are going to have difficulty hitting their target audience of kids under 14 due to that fact.

Yup.

Like I posted. I'm going to give it a try, and think of it as an upgrade to my psp go.
