Got a ticket

On my way up on the 3rd to Indiana to be with my girl for the Blueberry festival I got pulled over by State Patrol for speeding. I was passing a vehicle on 31 and got tagged doing 68 in a 60. Seeing as it was my first ever offence I was kind of ticked it wasn't a warning, but anyways. It's a 15$ ticket plus court fees which makes it 114$. Indiana also has a mandatory 2 point violation for 1-15mph over. Anything I can do to get the points removed? Is it worth it? My court date is Oct. 29 but I'm really not wanting to travel up there to fight the ticket as I was in the wrong after all. I haven't called the number yet on my ticket, it's supposed to be the burea to pay to, but I'm not sure if they'll offer me any options to fight it or not.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I do live in GA., so going to IN. for the ticket is a bit out of the question.

Usually they'll let you take a defensive driving class and not give you a point.

Are the court fees mandatory or is this just a measely $15 ticket? No court is necessary if you claim guilty. Pay the $15 and get it over with. Not everyone gets a warning, the warning was the sign. ;)

The reason it got up to 68 was that the vehicle i was passing was a semi which the cop also pulled over with me. The semi was limping with it's hazards on and was blowing smoke out the hood, barely make 45mph. I was staying back because i was afraid he would blow up, then on a down hill made the running start and got around him.

Sadly he said the court costs were mandatory. I really wish it was 15$.

either pay the money... and it gets reported to your insurance company... or go up there get into a driving class and invest in a good radar detector.

Indiana has a deferred judgment program where you pay the fine but you don't get the points unless you get another ticket in the next 6 months (at which point you'd get the points for both tickets). You're only eligible if you haven't had a ticket in the last 3 years, which is true for you. I believe you have to do this in person on your court date.

I believe you have to pay the court costs whether you fight it or not.

Call the court clerk and confirm what I've told you.

Totally! You'd have to be going at least 70-75 to get Oregon SP to look at you. From Eugene up to Portland every car was doing at least 10 over.

this.

It's never worth pts on your record, especially if you're <25.

I assume the buffer is 5mph, so 8 is warranted imo.

Take the defensive driving course, it's online and is easy as fuck unless you're completely daft and you can avoid the points. You also have to avoid getting a ticket there for another 6months I believe which shouldn't be hard since you don't live there. Call the clerk of the court and find out the details.

I used to live in IN and the state troopers are fucking ridiculous there, I got a $90 ticket for going 73 in a 70 on I65 which I would have fought since I was passing someone at the time but I couldn't get out of school at the time to go fight it.. this was years ago but I'm sure it hasn't changed at all.

just go to court and plead guilty. they'll probably just give you pbj. it's not worth the points and it's a bs ticket anyway.

I live in GA, it costs me 200$+ in gas to make the round trip in the Expedition.

Geico says I can expect a 10-15% raise for 2 points, I already pay 650$ every 6 months for me and my bro together on insurance.
