Got a Ticket... what can I tell the judge to get it reduced/taken away?

Hi all,

I woke up this morning to discover a ticket on my car. I guess there is a no parking zone from 9:00am-3:00pm on the street. I have lived here for about 7 months and never realized this, because the sign is right on the corner of the block (you'd think it woudl be in the middle), and that corner is the opposite direction from where I come home from. So I've never really noticed the sign.

Anyway, this is my first ticket ever (no speeding, no MIP's, no not even a parking violation), and I think it's pretty stupid you can't park in front of your own house anyway. We have 4 cars in this house, and the driveway will only fit two of them. I guess we're supposed to park the other two 2 blocks away ?

I really can't afford this ticket... anyway I'll get any leeway on it?

Thanks for help :)

Just set a court date and be nice to the prosecuter...maybe he'll cut you some slack.

I know how you feel, I've got to set a date tomorrow for a $122 fine for parking my truck so it partially blocked the sidewalk crossing my driveway...

The easiest way to make it go away is to pay up and admit you were wrong.

Alright... I guess technically I am wrong. So I can admit to that.

But is there any way to say, at the same time, that I think it is idiotic that you aren't allowed to park in front of your own house?

I agree with you 100%, but the judge is going to basically ask two questions.

1. Was it illegal to park a car during the said time and date?
2. Was your car parked there during prohibited hours?

Case closed.

Again, I feel for you, but the facts are the facts man.

Not at the same time. The judge's job is to interpret/enforce the laws, but it's not his job to write or repeal laws. What you need to do is contact your mayor or city consel, city planner or what have you about that. There may be permits for residents, or you might be able to get a permit system established. Contact them both in writing and by phone. Go to the council meetings and present your concern. See if your neighbors feel the same way and have them get on the bandwagon.

Make sure the cop that gave it to you comes down with appendicitis the day you're both supposed to show up in court. It worked for me. :)

Take it up with the city council. Or whoever makes the city laws there.

Wow what a bunch of pussies ATOT is full of....

I've gotten a number of non-moving violation tickets in my life time, and talked my way out of at hefty 62 in a 40. You guys bow down to the law way too easily. I've gotten tickets for expired stickers and insurance card (swear to god I was on my way to inspection when it happened, left the up-to-date stuff at home) which totalled up to at least $150... took it to court and the judge just picked out a group of people (which i was lucky to be part of) and told us to go home and get our money back... didnt even have to see him.

So if you got a ticket, at least take it to court and explain the situation, make up some bullshit that you locked your keys in the car or something...whatever it is, FIGHT THAT PARKING TICKET TO THE DEATH AND DONT LET THE MAN GET YOU DOWN!

I don't know about you but the pay I would not earn by going to court to fight most tickets is a lot more them paying the dam ticket.

I can even understand fight a ticket were you might lose point but fighting a parking ticket. Geez stick it to the man.

How busy is the street? Many of the streets around here have restrictive parking during the day to cut down on congestion. Doesn't seem that weird to me.
