The sign said "For service and drop off only". It does not say anything else on that sign. construction trucks were using it, but it didn't say for construction use only.

Ok, well I was going to drop off something to my friend who was waiting for me at the bookstore.

The ticket guy tells me I cannot park there. I tell him it is only going to take a minute and I have to drop something off. He tells me "whatever" and then drives off. Ok, well I thought this meant I could park there. If not why didn't he just give me the ticket when I was present?

I go drop it off come outside and there is a ticket on my car.

If I don't pay school tickets what will they do? The car is not registered under my name.

The sign didn't say so. It said for service and drop off only. I was dropping something off. They should have put better wording on it.

how long were you actually parked? less than 5 minutes? if so i would argue it and say you were in fact dropping something off, as per the sign, you were legally parked. If longer than 5 minutes, just cough up the dough.

How much is the ticket? Explain to mom and pop and have them pay for it.

Fight it! No matter how much it is for. The sign is not clearly worded, the meter reader was a jackass, and you were in fact just dropping something off.

If it's for college, which it sounds like it is, and if your car is registered with the campus, which it may be, or they find out it was you somehow, which they can, they wont let you graduate without paying outstanding bills. It's not like the real world. It's a microcosm running with it's own rules and laws.

Yep. And college parking monitors are the worst. Bastards.

Although the meter maid was a jerk (and I hate meter maids like crazy), you probably won't have any chance of getting the ticket appealed.

When they say service, they probably mean commercial drivers/trucks/etc.

When they say "drop off", it literally means just that, drop a person off, etc, no parking (not even 1 min). I realize you were dropping a package off, but in their eyes, that's not the "right" kind of dropping off.

They likely have an agreement with local authorities, will track the owner of the car and send a collection agency after them. I have seen this happen to students many time, so don't fool around

Unattended vehicle = parked. Friend should have come out to meet you.

Not sure what "Service" means, but probably for commercial vehicles.

Sounds to me like you were trying to be some smartass to the meter guy. The sign AND the meter guy told you you couldn't park there, but you still did. Other than that. I empathize because parking here in Irvine sucks...

Are you really this stupid or do you just act like you are?

Dropping off something to your friend is clearly not what they meant. An elementary school child should have been able to understand that they sign was indicating that the parking was for delivery and service vehicles.

If you were cited by the city on city property, they can go after you like this, but the representative of the private property and its internal parking enforcement team doesn't have the same credibility in court.

Someone will get the ticket even if it is not you....just pay it.

I had some school tickets and they held up my transcript...

Fight it. I got a stupid ticket at school for parking the wrong direction in a spot (yes really). They let me off. If they had made me pay they would have got their $10 in the form of 1000 pennies.

drop off means drop off a passenger. Basically they don't want anyone to park there and leave their vehicle unattended.

whoever the car is registered to will not be able to pay their DMV registration when the time comes.

if it's your parents, they will be PISSED OFF.

just pay up. When you graduated and make a lot of loot, the school is coing to call you and ask for donation. Tell them you already gave money to parking services.
