Got a speeding Tix for 31mph over in an active work zone. Anyone have any experience with this?

I was driving on the PA turnpike when one lane closed for construction. I thought nothing of it and began slowing down when I noticed a state trooper by the side of a white volks wagon writting them a ticket. I placed my foot on the break and was thinking to myself "poor bastard getting a ticket". Then he starts pointing at me as i got closer. Then he practically jumped out infront of me while i'm driving in the express way in a one lane road, so i slam on the breaks and pull over. He comes up to me and says i stopped you cause you were going 71mph in a 40mph work zone. So i say ok. I thought to myself that they must of had a speed trap at the beginning of the work zone as i was slowing down because i normally travel at around 75-80mph in the 65mph turnpike. So i'm in a bad mood and as i look at the ticket it says that i was caught by Radar and that he himself was the operator. There is no way i was going 71 mph when he saw me, and how the heck did he operate a radar gun as he was writting the white VW a ticket? So I look online and see that 31mph over is the maximum penalty at 5 points and a mandatory 15 day license suspension for speeding in an active work zone. I normally don't speed to much and am usually very careful. I haven't gotten a speeding ticket in 7 years. Any suggestions on what i can do? I can't loose my license for 15 days and my insurance will take a huge hit if i am found guilty of this. :(

You're fvcked and didn't handle that situation properly.

When you just said "ok" to the officer you basically said, "I'd like a ticket please."

Well as I said i thought there was a speed trap in the beginning of the work zone in which i very well could of been traveling at 71mph. I also didn't want to argue with the police officer cause he was a real a$$. He just came up, said i stoped you cause you were going 71mph and asked for my license and registration. I had my license and couldn't find my registration. He walked away so i thought that he would come back for my registeation, but instead he came with a ticket. I did have a witness that saw him writting the ticken when he stopped us. I did call my lawyer and he said he might be able to help me. Hopefully he can......

At least you didn't kill a road worker this time.

The way you worded it, you didn't bother to slow down until after you noticed the trooper.

Please clarify...how so? It's a speeding ticket still...not a DWI or reckless.

future insurance costs could possibly be higher.

Well i had to slow down because all the cars were merging to form 1 lane. On the turnpike at 9am there is no way in he11 that all the cars can merge to 1 lane without slowing down.

Of course, but it will still age. Most insurance companies go back two or three years. I don't see how it would screw him for a longer time than a normal speeding ticket.

Well I called my insurance agent and she said that my current insurance premimum proably won't increase, but it won't go down for 3 years, cause its already higher then it should be. However if i get another car and need to insure it i'm screwed. My lawyer told me it should be ok. That if i please not guilty and get a lawyer that i should most likely be able to get it down the the lowest possible offense. I hope both of these people are right.

A 5 point ticket will put points on his license for a MINIMUM of 24 months, and puts him one point away from further "corrective action." It will be 36 months of perfect driving before he will be treated as a first offender again.

Not to mention the insurance costs.

Right, but how will it affect him longer than any other speeding ticket? It just says if he reaches 6 points he will need to take an exam. Insurance will still look at it like a speeding ticket, just a higher than normal one.

Edit:

Glad I don't live in PA with that incredibly strict traffic system...

Ouch, PA is tough. NY isn't much better though, that'd be 8 points and I'd guess probably a $500+ ticket.

*waits for the parody thread where someone says they did 100 through a construction zone and hit a construction worker*

Maybe for beginners you should try using paragraphs, or at least pressing the enter key every once in a while

Yeah, your fine will be rather large I'm guessing. 31 mph over is never a walk in the park...but in a construction zone...eeeesh!

heh heh

I was going to say that his punishment should be forcing him to read posts with no paragraphs. :(
