Got a scare

I am having trouble with a USB connected device, which was plugged into a 4 outlet USB hub. My PC only has 2 USB connectors. I reasoned that plugging it directly into the PC might alleviate the problems, so I made that connection, forgetting that my 2TB WD Elements HD was recording a TV program. I disconnected that in the process of rearranging things and when I went to check things out, most of the directories on it were empty, according to Windows Explorer. Crystaldiskinfo didn't see the HD and neither did WD Datalifeguard Diagnostics. I rebooted the machine and now things look OK, well it passes the Quick Test of WDDLD and I see files in those folders, so I assume it was an OS issue. 😕

Usually, when you disconnect a HD that is being written to, info is lost, and the HD can become corrupted, depending on what it was doing at the time.

In your case, you should run chkdsk /x on the drive in question.
