Another Rome: Total War player with too much time/money.
A fantastic game BTW! I managed to conquer every single province. I think theres 100 in all.
pfft, i did that with the scipii
and i beat the game with the britons
and the seleucids (egypt isn't all that hard to beat when they don't have any armies... bribery is far too powerful in that game)
and the greeks
Pfft, you're still playing the Vanilla version.
Rome: Total War with the Rome: Total Realism mod is 10x better. I wouldn't even consider playing vanilla now.
What does the Total Realism mod do?
http://www.rometotalrealism.org/
Don't go to the .com... fake site.
Rome: Total Realism is dedicated to fixing all the historical inaccuracies that exist in the vanilla game. They've changed stats, deleted units, added units, added factions, deleted some factions, added cities, expanded the map (you even fight some Indian rebels in the east), reskinned almost every unit to be more historically accurate. It is a lot more fun. Because of the stat changes the battles are a lot more fun as well, with units responding and moving more correctly.
The campaign map is a lot different. You have to convert culture before you can recruit your own units. So when you capture an enemy city you can't recruit anything at first. Then when you build some low level barracks, you can recruit the local troops (say, Gallic Warbands if it is a Gallic city). Then, eventually, you can recruit your own troops but this requires about 20 turns of building representing how long it takes to change a town to your own culture and get some of your own citizens there.
I can't reccomend this mod enough. Currently it doesn't work with the expansion. They are working on 7.0 though and have been since Christmas, so it should be out soon (hopefully... they won't give a timetable). In 7.0 the map will be bigger and they will include scripting. You know all those events that happen, like "hand pump invented" that you tend to ignore? Now they'll actually do something. Civil wars will start, hannibal will invade Rome, and inventions will have an effect on the game.
I say again, I can't reccomend this mod enough
