Ok i just installed mine onto my 9800np, but i forgot to take a look at the switch in the back.
Right now i have the switch pointing downward( is it set to high) thats what i need to know.

Also should i have the switch on high or low while im breaking the thermal paste in ?

Down is high, up is low.

Don't worry about which one it's set on unless you see artifacts. I keep mine on low.

i keep mine on high always, why not when you can't hear it anyways? less heat = longer life for your card. althought it also means shorter life for the vga silencer, haha.

but wouldnt u ratehr buy a another vga silencer for you card than a card fort your vga silencer? 🙂

I can hear mine when it's on low, high is too loud for me.

Both settings are MUCH quieter than the stock fan.

maybe its time u made the jump to water.....
i know i will on my next build (provided i find someone whos done water before to help)

my 9800 fan was quite but went for the rev3 so i can start ocing it,
the sound is liveable with but imo a lot louder than the stock fan

on mine, low is quieter than stock, loud is about the same or maybe a little more airnoise if my head is near the rear of the pc, but less whine/vibrate type noise - more pleasant noise.

theres a L and H stamped onto the switch. anyway cant you hear, or at least see which is which?

I don't know what to tell you... The VGA Silencer on low IS quieter than the stock fan... There's really no opinion to it. The stock fan is smaller and turns faster. But whatever....

Also, to mrwxy, unless you plan on getting the new Zalman Reserator, or burying your pump\resevoir, you're going to have a hard time getting your water cooling set up as quiet as a quiet air cooled system.
