Got a Question about the New SB Live Cards with 5.1 Digital and my "Digital Ready" Receiver

First off, sorry if this is the wrong forum... if it is please tell me and I will repost..

Anyways, I have been hearing a lot of this new Sound Blaster Live! card with the built in 5.1 Dolby Digital decoder. I have a Kenwood VR-305 Dolby Pro logic receiver, and it is "digital ready". It has an input channel that consists of 6 inputs, left/right front, left/right surround, center, and subwoofer. This is designed for DVD supposedly. So my question, being that I have a Dolby Digital Ready receiver with a 6 channel input, will this work in conjunction with the new 5.1 Dolby Digital decoder on the new SB Live cards to give me true Dolby Digital?

Thanks.

Similar problem, I finally managed to get sb live value to work with my receiver using the coaxial/miniplug adapter.
My receiver is Harman Kardon AVR 65 which has built in Dolby Digital & DTS processing.
However when I'm playing DVD from my PC, the receiver will not recognize the signal as Dolby Digital.
Do I need another cable to connect my DVD driver to my sound card or what else do I need?

Sounds to me like you have an amp/reciever that will accept 6 channel input, but won't decode a dolby digital stream itself, since an SBLive 5.1 will decode teh dolby didital stream and output 6 discrete channels, that should link up nicely.

I would check news.creativelabs.com for the answer. Great SB information there and the Creative reps usually reply to questions.

I believe the SB Live! 5.1 would work in the matter you presented. You'd use the 5.1's "digital out", "line out", and "rear out" simultaneously. Trick might be to find the proper cables to interface everything!

Or, you could use a single cable from the 5.1's "digital out" to your receiver's "Dolby Digital AC-3 SPDIF in" jack.

I believe that only the mp3 and platinum 5.1 has an actual dolby digital decoder in it. The regular mp3 and platinum will need a decoder mpg card of some type to get Dolby Digital. My cambridge desktop theater is the same way. It supports dolby digital, but the card doesn't have a decoder.

A hooked up dvd w/ a decoder in it like the creative dvd / decoder will work. Otherwise i think you'll need to get a decoder and hook it up.
