Does it cost to play online games? For instance, if we rent a game you can play online, do I have to pay something (my son just got a new one for his bday).

Also, he was wanting phatasy star universe the mmorpg for it. Can you plug a pc usb keyboard into it? Finally, for teamspeak - will any usb headset work?

Thanks. ..

for games such as sports games, racing games etc, those are free, but mmorpg like phantasy star online, WoW, final fantasy XI, will require a monthly payment

The online feature of the PS2 isn't managed by Sony at all, so the cost of online play is dictated by the publisher (or is it the developer??) of the game.

what about the keyboard and headset questions, anyone know?

I'm pretty sure the USB on the system is basically meant for USB keyboards, so I'm 99% sure it's fine to plug in a regular USB keyboard. Not so sure about the headset, though, but if you find headsets that have PS2-compatibility in their descriptions, probably yes.

The Socomm series had a headset that came with the game, but I think that's the only one that supports it.

I dont get why it cost money to pay Phastasy star online, its just like GuildWars in that its NOT a constant true MMO. Why pay monthy to instance group with only 4ppl. RIP OFF!
