Got a question about hooking an external TV tuner directly to a monitor...

I have a spare 15" Dell monitor (1024x768) laying around here that I've thought about installing in my new camper as a TV since they sell TV tuners that can hook directly to a monitor. The one I'm looking at - a KWORLD over at newegg for $59 - can hookup directly to a VGA monitor which all this monitor has and even has a S-Video to VGA adapter.

My question is has anyone done this before? How does it look? Would it be better to just find a DVD player with a tuner in it and use a S-Video to VGA adapter if it will adjust to the screen size? The monitor already has the mounting screw holes on the back so it would fit on a compact wall mount setup just fine.

I've never tried it, but it does indeed look like this device will do exactly what you want.

Also You probably don't want to use an S-Video to VGA adapter. I can only imagine the image quality being not so great. The good thing about the Kworld device is that it has a native VGA output (from what I can tell), so you wouldn't need to use that cable. Actually after looking at the specs on newegg's page, the S-video to VGA cable is probably really a VGA to s-video cable. meaning you plug your computer to the VGA end and the S-video to the tuner box. (of course I could have just misunderstand what you were saying... so just ignore these last few statements if so.)

for that kind of money, why not just sell the monitor and buy a small LCD tv?
