Ok so i got a p4 2.8e shipped to me today. I recieved it today and i open up the package to look at the stepping. The processor has ceramique all over it and then i flip it over and its all in between the pins and the caps underneath... kinda wondering if i should try to clean it or what. If i should clean it, what should i clean it with? There is no way i will be able to get a qtip down there to clean it up. Throw me some ideas!

Clean it with a static whipe! o_o

I believe electrical cleaner or electric motor cleaner should be able to get it off the pins. For the top I would use achohol.

Wow, what a load of sh*t. How could they sell a cpu with paste all over it, especially all over the pins!?!?! RMA that POS.

Ignore this troll.

You can clean the CPU but its a shame they didnt do it themselves.

Even though an A64 is the better choice for a new system, this situation only mentions the purcahse of a P4E and the subsequent poor condition it was in when it was received.

Felix is right in this case although there are much nicer and better ways to say it.

I think paramdog said it right when he said RMA it and get a new one. Its like opening a box of chocolates to find that half the chocolate has melted to the box. You can still use it but it isnt as expected and it's going to take you more work than you should have to do.

God knows where its been and whats happened to it.

yea... i cleaned it last night with some alcohol and a soft bristled toothbrush... the sad thing is, i bought it from a great trader. I approached him about it in a pm and he says that it must be the way he recieved it. So my question to him was.... why didnt he test it before making a trade with me and not knowing that it even works... WTF

Where did he get the chip from? It obviously wasnt retail so I agree that he should have checked it before he sold it.

You need to get yourself a can of greaseless parts cleaner. It is sold as brake cleaner in auto stores. You can blast the chip with it and it'll do most of the work for you. Then just put the chip in a small bath of it and use the toothbrush to fine clean it.

The chip will wind up looking like brand new. And the stuff dries really quickly and leaves no residue, you can install it almost immediately after cleaning it.
