got a phone interview!

After a few months of sending off resumes I finally landed a phone interview with a company in LA, the HR person said she was "very impressed" by my cover letter.

The weirdest thing was that I sent my resume Thurs night after business hours (like 7 PM CST) and got a call literally 10 minutes later...and I didn't even apply through the website...I went through Monster!

Guess thats just a sign that the economy is picking up...at least on the west coast.

What kind of a company is it? One of those "marketing" companies? (all crap door to door type)

Simply put, if a recruiter/HR company calls you within 10 minutes there's something shady. Especially after business hours. Just my two cents.

I don't think so because its a software engineering position I'm interviewing for...this is a media company out in LA that develops software for set-top boxes, cell phones, etc for DirecTV,Verizon, and other big companies.

Ahh ok. Well I still find it suspicious that 10 minutes later they called you. No one is really "impressed" by a cover letter - the purpose of a cover letter is for the HR perp to look at your resume to see if your qualified, and the purpose of your resume is to get you an interview or at least a phone call. Just make sure you research the company, make sure they're legit, (have an actual website, etc) I'm not trying to piss on your hopes or anything, don't take it the wrong way.

Goodluck dude 😀

I got to meet up with a tv company next week for a tv show I may appear on 😀

well there is a chance that I'm over qualified for the position they're interviewing me for..but I did mention that to her on the phone but she still seemed like they would be able to find a matching position for me either way even if the original one I applied for isn't good enough.

I am wary about it though...my standards for a job are pretty high so I'm not going to just accept anything just because its in LA.

And yes the company is legit, I checked them out...they've been around for a while too.
