This is weird ! The original call that i recd about this offer came from 800-333-3474 which is the number for DISH Network. When i asked DISH about this they knew that this was going on for a long time and many people have lost their money. They said there were programs out there where someone can use their phone number and call people. DISH also said that there detectives are actively working on resolving this. what ????? what the hell are these people working on for all these months ???? and why didn't they warn their customers ????? I called the fraud company at 800-351-4134 and gave the crooks a piece of my mind.

Phone numbers are easy to spoof as there's no authentication. I could call you with the White House's phone number, if I desired.

I got a call on Saturday 2MAR2013 around 11am PST with the offer of pay in advance 6 months and get 6 months free. The guys on the phone are following a very sophisticated script and give you an employee ID (nR1 where n is an arbitrary number). They ask you for your security code to the dish account for "verification". They will offer two additional channels of your choice - HBO, Cinemax, etc for free for 12 months. Then they ask you to go to Walmart and buy a Green Dot Money Pak for the amount of the 6 times your current monthly bill. They ask you to call back at 1800-439-2127 and provide the code behind the scratch strip on the back of the card.

The guy will stay on the line till you see the new programming packages show up on your TV. Pretty good customer service!🙄

Soon after the call ended, I got an email from Dishnet saying my online password was changed. That sounded fishy so I called dish and they said this whole thing is a scam they are aware of and many people have been called. They claim they do not know how these guys got into the accounts. So, I had dish reset my password, security code etc and reverse all the changes as Dish rep says my monthly bill just doubled up with the changes.

So, back to the scammers...these guys had given me time till today Sun 4MAR till 11am to call back with the scratch code. I get a call at 8am. I told the guy I have to call Dish to verify his identity...hangs up immediately. I call again and I ask for their address...hangs up immediately. There were atleast two male voices and one female came on. They claim to be in Redmond, WA but accents indicate south east asian. One of the guys said his name is Ted mcKenzie. I ask him you don't sound irish - he says he is South African but as I dig more...he hangs up again!

And then again this afternoon at 3pm, I get an email from dish that my password is changed. Hmmm...now how did that happen...I had changed the security code, password everything...and I did not give the new security code to these scammers. So it seems they are able to access Dish servers LIVE!!!!

BEWARE OF THE SCAM!!!!! MAKE SURE TO CANCEL YOUR CREDIT CARD ON FILE!!!

wow, can't believe this is still going on.

btw, dish's online security is a joke: see my first post. all you need is email and phone number to reset the password. so, once the scammers have those (obviously they do - since they called you and probably have your email as well), they will keep getting into your account.

good luck - hopefully you get your money back.

1ST. those bastards hack your account get in touch with you with lucrative offer.
2ND. they will offer you 6 months free for 6 months advance payment. TO MAKE IT LOOK ABSOLUTELY REAL they will deposit 12 months worth payment in your dish network account and add 2 free channels ( or however many that they offer) to you account along with packages you selected.
3RD. they will ask you to buy GREANPACKMONEYCARD worth half the amount for 6 months advance payment. THE MOMENT YOU BUY THIS CARD AND GIVE THEM PIN AUTHORIZING PAYMENT YOU LOOSEEEEE YOUR MONEY.
4TH. within 2-3 days person who had bought greenpackcard to make initial payment to DISH NETWORK would call them saying its fraudulent charge and provide them with all information necessary and get their money back LEAVING YOU NOT ONLY IN SINKHOLE OF MONEY LOST IN STEP 3 BUT EVEN BIGGER DEBT WITH DISH NETWORK AS WELL.
5TH. The worst crime committed here is by DISH NETWORK, willingly or unwillingly they are partners in crime and here are reasons why, their security system is JOKE which is so easy to compromise, they allow big amount of transactions (>500$) which are unauthorized payments to go thru without being FLAGGED, they allow refund of such amount upon request by very people who committed this fraud, instead of helping customers they would go upto any extent to screw the customer to make more money out of it and always blackmail customers to send them to collections if they don't pay whatever DISH NETWORK has asked them to pay and even though this scam is well known in customer care circle, they haven't taken any LEGAL actions to prevent this or modified their system to protect customers instead all they do is advice customers to contact local police which THEY KNOW would not be able to do a thing about it.

All right so lucky for me this thread existed, and i Googled at same time the fraud committers called me with this lucrative offer and saved myself hundreds of dollars, but if you are scammed already not only from those bastards but also by DISH NETWORK AND HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DO ANYTHING I SAY CONTACT A LAWYER AND FILE CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST DISH NETWORK FOR LEAVING CUSTOMERS SO VULNERABLE TO FRAUD, AND IN REALITY HELPING THE SCAMMERS (WHETHER WILLINGLY OR UNWILLINGLY IS NOT THE QUESTION HERE) TO HURT INNOCENT CUSTOMERS FINANCIALLY IN SUCH MANNER.

OP thanks for starting this thread, if you like add the steps in original post so it would be much easier by community to find it and protect themselves,

I made a call to 888-321-7209 (www.dishretailer.com), enquiring about international channel. They verified my id and also dish has a log of that call. Within 20 min. after disconnecting the call, I got a call from this scammer.
The scammer gave the exact amount I pay each month to dish, duration of my time with dish network, and about my auto payment. This makes me think, definitely dishretailer.com operators are passing the information.
