I've had a weber charcoal grill for a long time. Mine was the original 3 bottom vents and a top vent but was a pain to clean and empty the ashes. So I got a 22.5" weber gold charcoal grill.

It's basically the same with one really nice feature. The bottom has an ash catcher and the vents have been improved to allow easy cleaning. That feature right there was enough to spend the 150 bucks.

I fired a full of coals chimney starter and emptied the coals. After about 10 minutes the grill was ready to cook and BOY WAS IT HOT! Much hotter than my 3 vent one would run, you almost couldn't be within 3 feet of it covered. And the coals lasted for at least 2 hours if not more with plenty of heat.

Highly recommended. I would swear by my original but this is much improved. Also the grates lift up for adding more fuel or to put stuff directly on the coals. I wish I got the 26" version as it includes a built-in thermometer and of course much more cooking space.

that kind of offer almost makes it worth planning a road trip

the thing that struck me as odd about the smokey joe, is that the silver has the ash catch. the gold one...doesnt, but it has a nifty bar to lock the lid down for portability (ive already taken it out several times, so i dig it)

I bought that same one several years ago. I'm getting ready to fire it up tonight to smoke a rack of ribs then make this.

That is one of the most awesome things I've ever seen.

I was actually thinking about getting the 22.5" silver for $90. I wasn't sure if the ash catcher and folding grates (which can be purchased separately) was worth the extra $60. I have to admit though... I'm tempted to get the BBQ Pro 22.5" one for $50 at Sears. Is there much of a difference? Just curious, does the Weber grills allow you to adjust the cooking grate height? I think the BBQ Pro can, but I don't remember seeing that feature on the Weber.

That's the reason I posted - the extra features are well worth it. You cannot adjust the grill height and I've never needed to - you can create different heat zones pretty easily.

For anyone that uses regular charcoal, saw a listing on a deals website that Home Depot is selling 43 lbs. (two 21.6 lb. bags) of Kingsford charcoal for $8.97 till 5/27/09.

Someone said similar bag at Sam's Club usually runs $12 - $13.

Wow, that makes me want to buy a smoker just to try it. How many points do you think that adds to your cholesterol level? :D
