Got a new ride - then old one died...

Got this a few weeks ago (while I was banned :awe:). So, I went to sell my Mustang, and as the first guy was test driving it, the head gasket(s) blew. Yay! So I now have a project on my hands, and it is not an easy one so far. Luckily I don't need the money immediately. So I'm working on that currently. But on to the new one...

Just gave her a detailing today, so decided to get some pictures. This is my 2000 Camaro SS Convertible 6-speed. Pewter with a black top, black leather interior, 18" Privat wheels, lowered with Eibach springs, Hurst short throw, SLP air box, Borla catback exhaust (1 in, 2 out). I don't have any major plans to the car, I'd like to do some bolt on modifications somewhere in the future, upgrade the audio system (at the very least for MP3 player hookup), and just keep it clean. So, here she is:

I usually hate convertible cars that come standard as a coupe but this one isn't so bad. I like the color, and love the sounds these cars produce. Hope you enjoy it. Some of those photos make it look like it's 30 feet long, lol.

That is an ugly ass dent below the passanger door btw, looks expensive to repair

It is long as hell. It's probably as long as the Trailblazer we have sitting in the driveway. Yeah, I got it for a good price, and only has about 63.5k on it, so I budgeted a bit to get things like that (windshield was also cracked) fixed.

Nice car. I think the wheels look ghetto though.

Before I washed the car, I didn't know they were chrome besides the lip...they didn't look flashy at all, now they do. I still like them, but I'd really like some black rims on there, so maybe in the next year I might change them. This is before the wash, though not a great pic, they didn't look as flashy as now.

I'm actually gonna retract calling that a dent and more of a serious impact that had a door replacement from a donor car of the same color and could use some time pulling the inside jamb out. The reflection doesn't match up which means that the unibody is/was deformed right there.

never the less, nice car and most people are blind to those sort of imperfections.

What did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking?

$8300 when it was all over (besides DMV fees). It does require premium gas too...:\ Oh well, it's worth it to me.

That should make for a nice Summer cruising vehicle.

Premium is not actually required, it just performs best with it.

If you have the 3800 V6 engine (VIN Code K), use
regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher.

If you have the 5.7L V8 engine (VIN Code G), use
premium unleaded gasoline rated at 91 octane or higher
for best performance. You may use middle grade or
regular unleaded gasolines, but your vehicle’s
acceleration may be slightly reduced.

Depending on vehicle, timing changes etc mean you also lose fuel economy - usually having the ability to run lower octane is intended as a convenience in case you are somewhere that does not have premium.

It's not a turbo or anything and it's got knock sensors. It's nothing special. The owner's manual doesn't seem too excited about octane. :D

Probably would not notice a thing on the butt dyno with that V8 and 89 octane. :D

In the end though, the price difference really isn't much to worry about, and neither is the mileage with a Camaro SS. If you were mileage conscious, you wouldn't be driving one of those...

They actually get decent enough mpg... If you can keep the foot out of it :D

OP, not sure if you are aware, but look at LS1tech.com - lots and lots of info about the fbodies there. Careful, they may make you want to spend more money on it :p

I see the auxiliary driving lights behind that grille. Betcha the previous owner has at least lurked on LS1tech as that looks like what one guy on there did and a few others copied from.

All I was saying is you likely won't save any money by running regular, even though it costs less to fill the tank.

Sure. That's the way it is with my Hemi. 87 gets lower fuel economy.

The OP was the one lamenting the premium requirement, but it's only what, $3-4 more per tank? I wouldn't worry about that.

When you get a car like that, gas cost doesn't mean a thing. It's tire cost that becomes the predominant consumable expense. An SS LS1 doesn't use hard compound 165 14" all seasons that last 100,000 miles :awe:

Yeah...so far, these are my fill ups: http://www.mpgtune.com/fillupHistory.php?carId=5407
Pretty bad, though I do have either a cat problem or O2 sensor as it is throwing me a code. Once I get that fixed, it should go back up, but with this thing it is hard to keep my foot off the gas. Hell, I've already gotten a damn ticket in the thing. :(

LOL slow down there cole trickle

It was 49 in a 35...everybody goes 45 on the road, it's the main road in town, so not sure why I was the only one to get stopped...but apparently I just didn't see the cop. Never had a problem going that speed in the Mustang, but I guess that wasn't as loud or flashy...
