Got a NEW laptop

ok so i just bought a new Sony Vaio laptop here are the specs

Intel Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB)
512 DDR2 dual channel(2x256 Frequency at 199.5MHz FSBRAM @ 2:3)
80 GB HD (cant find the specs on it)

ok so i got a problem that is pissing me off.. its so slow... i start up the computer and you know that startup sound the comp makes when u start up windows xp... it lags as w/ all sounds... i play mp3's and like it lags and skips all the time.. even though im not doing ne thing... does anyone think theres something wrong w/ my laptop... or should i upgrade my RAM...1GB? does this processor suck.. please help me out.. this is really pissing me off..thanks

Does your Sony Vaio Notebook provide a startup diagnostics at boot if it does you should run a test to see if any hardware is damaged or doesnt work properly...other than that since your computer is fairly new just reformat your hardrive i bet its a virus nextime install a firewall and a antivirus program...

i dont think its a virus... cuz i didnt even access the internet or anything when i got the laptop. i made sure of that because i wanted to install spyware doctor and all my virus/spyware protection. should i do it anyways.
