Got a new GPU, my hack is broke

Just got a GTX260 216, heard that it works with Leopard and so want to get my hack up and running again. I can't recall the instructions for fixing this, and don't want to go through the 150 pages of the main hackintosh thread. So, can anyone help me out with this? What's the best way to do this?

i have same card. Works in leopard and snow. Easier in snow though.

In leopard you have to use strings, but this may have changed as you could use the new chameleon.

Ill find the thread on insanely that i used brb

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=113489&st=480

I also emailed my self all the directions i followed from posts on that thread.... but last time i tried i think just installing the drivers from netkas worked with no strings needed. See Below:

Installed enabler first then driver

What I*he did:

1.

cd /System/Library/Extensions

sudo rm -r GeForce.kext

sudo rm -r NVDANV40Hal.kext

sudo rm -r NVDANV50Hal.kext

sudo rm -r NVDAResman.kext

(no other injectors installed)

2. download/install

3. download/install

If you are keypox here as well as there, then we have the same card, and I think the same mobo, so copying most of your stuff shouldn't be too hard.

indeed and if you want my dsdt for snow it should be good as well (networking, audio, video). Has a few fixes for our board. I did the speedstepping as well but temps went up higher than just using nullcpupowermanagement.

That would be great, since I have to pull the drive to back up the stuff anyway (MacDrive cannot access it), might as well update to Snow Leopard then.

lol ok

Here is my entire cham partition. All you have to do is get snow installed chameleon. I would also use my boot file. Its a modified one from a few months ago. I have had problems with newer ones. And I am waiting for the new chameleon to come out before messing with any other ones.

The legacyHDA.kext is for 10.6.2, everything else should work in any version i think.

Now one final question, I was reading that when you do the 10.6.2 update it KP's? What am I supposed to do to avoid that, heh.

I apologise if it's been answered but it's a big thread wink.gif

I've tried to put that info in PDF 'Part 8 - Apple Updates'.
But in a nutshell, run 'Software Update' to update to 10.6.2 and before rebooting replace SleepEnabler.kext with the 10.6.2 specific SleepEnabler.kext. And while you're at it, do the same for LegacyHDA.kext. You can find both in SupportFiles1.2/Part4/3/Kexts/For 10.6.2/

So what is the process here? I am currently using a USB thumb drive for Chameleon since RC4 didn't want to play nice and install

so should I just replace the data on there with what you gave me?
Then, I boot off the stick
Get it to boot the snow disk
Install snow
Update to 10.6.2
Get the replacement sleep enabler where?

I will let you know if this works, I will be trying it tomorrow evening probably.

yeah that should work actually. Thats how i did it. But later i made a separate partition (1GB)

Maybe just use the default chameleon install to install snow then when you update to 6.2, use all the kexts that i uploaded. Should work either way but im not sure the 2 new kexts will mess up pre 6.2.

That boot file is a modified RC4 bootfile. That inserts a couple things for you. I think you will be pretty happy with that install, very stable and snow is awesome.

The zip file i uploaded is the sleep enabler for 10.6.2, as is the hda. You dont need anything else, that i can think of. Well besides Rip2 for autosleep.

The only things you might want/need to change is in the com.apple.boot.plist.
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1680x1050x32</string> Maybe this, just changes the boot screen resolution. I kept it here, even though my native is 1920x1200, if your monitor doenst support this high you should lower it.
..
..
<key>Default Partition</key>
<string>hd(0,3)</string> And probably this (though it just highlights this partition and you can select any you want)

Good luck im very interested to see how it works for you, it should be perfect.

Well i looked at the guide i followed and he does use a legacyHDA kext for install, and no sleepenabler. I dunno if it will matter, hopefully you have a backup old install?

Also after updating to 10.6.2 you need the bonjour fix (i think made by kaido)

Take a look at the guides here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=180954
Part 2 - Install Snow Leopard v1.3 Last updated 21st February 2010
Part 3 - Install Chameleon v1.1 Last updated 21st February 2010
Part 4 - Configure for GA-EP45-DS3L v1.2 Last updated 21st February 2010

I think you can do it without looking but just in case i would have those 3 pdfs handy. Also the last one tells you how to fix bonjour, just a simple package. I didnt use the RealtekR1000SL.kext either.

Another interesting pdf is the 7th one Part 7

It talks about the upcoming RC5 chameleon, which will eliminate the need for a reboot kext. Also talks about shutdown DSDT hack, which i have in my dsdt, uploaded. Speedstep which you can do on your own, I wasnt happy with results and is unique to processor. But allows for removal of two more kexts

I am not getting any of this to work. Not Snow, and not the kexts or whatever for the GTX260 in Leopard either. The link to teh driver worked, but the link to step 3 is dead. So I don't know what to do next.

Sigh, back to Windows 7 as default... again.

This is actually TheStu, I am using Tyranicus' MacBook Pro and forgot to log him out

whats wrong with snow install? Did it install? did you look at blacks guide?

I tried, honestly, I reach a certain point where I am looking at all these instructions to roll this, and kext that, and use Hex to decode the other, and I just short of shut off and stop caring. Pre GPU upgrade, I dropped in the iPC disk, installed, and that was that. I want OS X as my primary OS, I prefer OS X as my primary OS, but I have a fairly low tolerance for installation difficulty.

For all I know this really is quite easy to do and I am just missing something fundamental, but it almost feels to me like most of these guides require some minimum level of expertise or knowledge or something, and I don't have it.

If you had the usb stick made with the image of snow leopard restored to it. All you should have to do is boot from it. Restart hit F12 and select the usb drive to boot from.

If that didnt work for some reason. You should follow page 2-3 on Part 2 install snow leopard. Which shows step by step how to restore the image and install chameleon.

Small file-server update
March 14th 2010 Posted to Leopard, Snow Leopard

Somebody(a Macpro owner with pc gtx260) said rapidshare links to Enabler_for_Nvidia_and_multiple_ATI_cards.pkg were dead.

So now this pkg is located on our file server – Enabler_for_Nvidia_and_multiple_ATI_cards.pkg.zip

I found the enabler and got the evga gtx drivers to install and I am now happily back in Leopard. For now, this is good enough, and it will probably be a while again before I try and take another crack at Snow. Maybe when I upgrade the rest of my system I may look for a guide like Kaido's that lists specific hardware to make my transition easier.

I appreciate all your help, could not have gotten Leopard working without you.
