Got a new car!

child of wonder

2013 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0T

Wife and I had kicked around the idea of getting a different car and finally decided to go through with it. Good acceleration, fun to drive, and getting good gas mileage was a requirement and the Sonata was the only car that fit the bill while staying under $30k. The warranty was also a big factor for us, too.

Any other latest generation Sonata owners here have any experiences with their cars, good or bad? First minor issue we found was that the sound on the Infinity system was distorted at high volumes when streaming audio from our phone but turning the volume down on the phone fixed that.

Man. The new Sonatas really look nice.

Congrats.

On the sound thing, I've yet to find a car where streaming music via bluetooth produces good quality sound... Don't know what it is. Best to stick with an aux cable.

I stream audio via bluetooth in my prius c and it sounds great.

I stream via bluetooth from my GLS 2012 Sonata and everything sounds great. Welcome to the Hyundai family! I have had mine for a year and 5 months almost with almost 32k miles as well. Great all around car, decent mileage, comfortable, roomy dependable... easy to maintain... 🙂 I love it.

I can't believe used car prices right now. This seems like a horrible deal. And this isn't a sports car. Save your money.

Drove a Prius C 2 days ago with a work mate with my Samsung Fascinate doing Bluetooth and it sounded great until it was turned up to thumpin levels, then it got all distorted sounding. Dubstep, hip hop, and Avenged Sevenfold. CD of the same sounded fine even way up.

I've never had a problem with BT quality in my Fusion. Every once in awhile it will skip if I'm doing other things on the phone at the same time, but that's all...

Styling-wise it's not my cup of tea, but you can't argue with the features and MPG for the price. Nice car, congrats.

What are you talking about? The car is new and I got it for $27,900. I never said it was a sports car, just something that can get up and go yet still get good fuel economy.

Was the volume on your phone maxxed out? Mine sounded like shit until I knocked the volume down a couple notches on my phone's volume control.

Actually yes it was, I always thought that was how it was done. But now that I think about it, it kind of makes sense that it could cause issue. When (if) I get a chance to ride in it again I'll be sure to try that out. :hmm:

I have an early model 2011 GLS and love it.
Only one unsolvable hiccup so far, sometimes the traction control light will come on after I shift the vehicle into park, and the car won't let me shift out of park until I restart it.

Very nice! As for BT streaming, you do have to factor in the volume of the device as well as your audio speakers to find the right balance for loud but not distorted.

Wrong thread. Sorry man. I was replying to someone in a different thread who wanted to buy some old POS with problems for thousands. I blame it on browser confusion and too-many-tabs-open-syndrome.

Nice car. Enjoy your Sonata. I looked at them when shopping for my new family sedan. Settled on the 2012 Charger with 8-speed transmission. I got a great price, the car has balls and it looks really really mean. Plus it's enormous and gets between 31 and 34 mph on the highway at 75 mph, so I can't ask for much more.

Nice car. It's crazy but I've been looking at a Veloster. Damn good looking car. Only if they made it RWD + turbo. lol, I never would have thought Hyundai would be a brand people could actually consider.

My fiance wants a veloster, badly. I still personally want the Soul. Either way I hope one of them at least will be in my driver end of next year. The 2013 Veloster looks promising, turbo model coming out with projectors.

Back in 2008 a coworker who had just started mentioned in conversation that he owned a 2005 Hyundai Sonata. My initial thought was "ewww... a Hyundai?" lol

I never would have thought I'd own one myself just a few years later. Hyundai has really stepped up their game and put out a fantastic automobile.

The warranty was the tipping point for us. I was considering holding out until the 2013 Ford Fusion came out with the 2.0l Ecoboost but early pricing shows the MSRP for a similarly equipped 2013 Fusion would be at least $2,000 more than the Sonata and yet it has half the warranty. On top of that, the dealer we got the Sonata from extends the powertrain warranty to unlimited miles at no charge. That's huge since we'll likely keep this car for 5+ years.

I've been seriously considering a 2012 Sonata for all the reasons you listed. The only thing I'm meh about is the front grille. I can't decide if I like it or not. Any long distance trips yet? I'm concerned about road noise, but I must confess, I haven't driven one yet.

Drove the car about 120 miles total last night. Ride isn't as smooth as we're used to with our 2007 Camry but better than our 2007 Civic. Part of that may be because the Camry has 16" rims and the Sonata has 18" so there's less tire to absorb shocks.

Road noise doesn't seem any worse than the Camry. At 72 mph my wife and I could easily carry on a conversation without raising our voices.

You want a Veloster until you drive one. The transmission is so annoying, and it can barely get out of it's own way it's so underpowered.

I know most people think this car looks good but I still think it's a tad too strange. The Genesis coupe looks good though.

Until you drive the it then you'll realize that every other coupe handles better than the Genesis coupe. Not sure about the 2013 model though - they might have improved the handling on it.

Congrats, hope you enjoy it. We've had a 2012 GLS for almost a year, no problems and still are very happy with it. We looked at the Fusiongreat to deal with as well.

I think shockingly my wife likes the car more than I do. Was hoping to convince her to take this one and maybe get a new 2.0T SE somewhere down the road, but I think she's going to want to look at the new Santa Fe when it comes out. They've really turned around into a brand to at least seriously consider. Maybe not class leaders across the full lineup, but the price, warranty, and standard equipment really make them attractive.
