Nice car OP. Did you cross shop the Focus ST at all? I would consider either the ST or GTI as my next car, among other possibilities.

Thanks! I did a little bit. When I was first looking I tried to find a Fiesta ST or a Focus ST, and wasn't able to easily. I drove the normal variants of each and didn't overly care for them, which is what lead me to a Mazda 3. The Fiesta definitely was more fun, but small. Mainly what drove me away from an ST was the lack of a mechanical LSD (it's braking system only, like on the base GTI's, which never works well and wears down your brakes) and refinement. The GTI although it has a bit less power, weighs less, gets better mpg, and is just as fast (sometimes faster). Having been in an 05 WRX for 9 years, I was ready for something a little more comfortable for everyday stuff. I guess I'm just getting old...D: Would love to get a new mx5 as a secondary though.

However, the new Focus RS looks amazing and what I would try to go for if able. 315 hp through torque vectoring AWD...yes please!

Congrats :)

I drove one over a decade ago and just didn't real like it myself.

Looks they have changed a few things, I like it.

Anything VW/Audi/Porsche I've tended to steer away from for high maintenance costs personally I guess.

Porsches are very reliable cars. If you steer clear of the dealer you can have a pretty standard service cost. Those unnecessary $500 oil changes are what kills ya. Just go to a more affordable mechanic you trust. :)
