Now in the driveway is a 2015 VW GTI with performance pack (lsd, bigger brakes, 10+hp). I actually had to order this car and that ended up taking longer than expected, but it was worth the wait to get the exact car I wanted. It finally came in late last week and since then have put a good 700 miles on it as it showed up right before a planned road trip.

Pretty comfy inside.

Dunno what it's like to really wring it out yet, but the torque vectoring diff is pretty cool when it does it's thing. The upgraded brakes are incredible and do a great job of slowing you down without any fuss. And when you need to make distance it will just sit on the highway and quietly cruise right along getting 35+mpg.

Biggest negative is the infotainment system and proprietary 'mdi' connection. Sadly I couldn't wait on a 2016 to fix that issue.

I know there's some VW hate here but I thought I'd share. Should be better than the b5 passat we once had.

Very nice car. I love how the interior is a mixture of Porsche and audi. Can't go wrong with that!

Looks great, congrats! Always wanted to drive one of those. Had a New Beetle in the past (regular non-turbo non-diesel) & it was a lightning bolt with incredible corning, would really be interested to see how the GTI compares!

not gonna lie, came in here to hate on it, but then I saw the manual gear change. That and you took the time to order the car you wanted; so I say congrats. Nice car!

The VW hate here isn't about whether the cars are great to drive, styled great, or if their interiors are nice. There's no question that they are fine cars in those regards.

Cost of ownership looks to be pretty high to me:

Based on a 5-year estimate with 15,000 miles driven per year.
Edmunds.com True Cost to Own® (TCO®) is proprietary data that helps you estimate the total five-year cost of buying and owning a vehicle - including some items you may not have taken into consideration. A benefit of using our TCO® tool is that you can easily compare the five-year totals for different vehicles and make a more informed choice.

5 Year True Cost to Own ®
Year 1 $12,642
Year 2 $7,187
Year 3 $6,896
Year 4 $7,379
Year 5 $8,227
Total $42,331

That is the main issue.

Congrats on the new ride. Really good looking car.

A guy in my complex just upgraded from his dark blue Mk5 to a Mk7 in dark grey.

OP - nice ride.

The performance pack is a great deal for the $$$. Very nice choice! :)

I came close to getting either a GTI SE or Autbohan, both w/ lighting package. It sure is a nice car, congrats! :)

Nice color choice and really nice factory rims, don't car much for the speedometer layout but that's kind of nit-picky.

Congrats :)

I drove one over a decade ago and just didn't real like it myself.

Looks they have changed a few things, I like it.

Anything VW/Audi/Porsche I've tended to steer away from for high maintenance costs personally I guess.

VW almost looks to be stealing a few things these days.

I don't know who's stealing what, but the Golf's shape has been like that for about 537 years...

Thanks guys! Loving it so far! The lights at night make it feel like a mini-sun started up in front of you

Very nice car. I love how the interior is a mixture of Porsche and audi. Can't go wrong with that!

Indeed! For the pricepoint and money it's a pretty high quality interior from what I can tell. All kinds of little neat features. There's a storage bin under my seat, there's a storage bin left of the steering wheel, the doors have huge storage pockets, the glovebox is cooled, all windows are full auto (FINALLY!), etc.

OP - nice ride.

The performance pack is a great deal for the $$$. Very nice choice! :)

Indeed! Very hard to find one with this on it, hence the need to order. Was either already taken, got beaten to it, wrong color, wrong transmission, or was for some reason without the lighting package..D:.

Nice color choice and really nice factory rims, don't car much for the speedometer layout but that's kind of nit-picky.

It may be hard to tell but the color is 'night blue metallic' and it's incredible in the light, but shows up poorly on pictures.

And yeah, I don't care for the speedo much either. The way they did it makes it horribly cluttered in there and I've a difficult time determining my speed quickly. Conveniently though the display in between the gauges also has a digital speed readout so I frequently use that since it's bright and clear. Other markets, including Canada, only get it in one measurement and it looks worlds better.

Always been a fan of the Mazda 3, so much so that I got a 2014 whilst waiting on this one. Now the SO drives it so we're a 2 hatchback garage at the moment.

Nice. I was thinking about the 2 door version.

I looked at them and drove the 2 door, but decided against it. To me the 2dr version of the mk7 looks funny. Main problem though is that the doors are super long and even with the 4dr's shortened doors it's not an easy car to get out of. Coupled with some really stupid bump stops on the door hinge means it's tricky not to do any damage on exit. Other mild inconvenience is if you are in the SE model you'll lose the partial power seats.

Still it's a great car so you can't go wrong with either model! Just for me the 4dr was more practical.

However, if you are seriously considering it and can wait, wait for the 2016 models to come out. If you don't care about android auto/apple carplay then you'll get even better deal on the 2015. However stupidly in this market VW saddles us with the MDI cable so there is no USB or AUX input, even though other markets get that. 2016's will have both of those and should be out in 2-3 months (production starts end of this month). I'd have waited for it if we didn't need to have 2 good, reliable, safe cars in the house.

Yeah, I was mainly just going for looks. I just the look of 2 doors. If 2016 are that close I'll just keep on waiting. By then I'll probably be looking at another car. Congrats though. I was even going to get that color!

Nice car OP. Did you cross shop the Focus ST at all? I would consider either the ST or GTI as my next car, among other possibilities.
