Hi all

Plz help me before I throw my pc out the window...

Last week I got a new ASUS Geforce 6800 GE... http://uk.asus.com/products/vga/v9999ge/overview.htm

I replaced my Geforce 3... and immeditately got a some problems. Cant explain what they were but ended up reinstalling WinXP Pro this weekend.

The problems I have been experiencing before/after OS reinstall:
- Doom 3 (or any other game I try to use) runs fine, I can play the game as it was meant to be played, HOWEVER, when I attempt to change graphics settings and "apply settings"... the pc hangs. I then have to ctrl+alt+del to end d3 task.
- I Can play Doom 3 fine, BUT, when trying to exit the game (note: no graphics settings were changed), the game hangs and I have to ctrl+alt+del to end d3 task.

Here are my system specs:

- AMD KT400 - A7V8X mobo
- Kingston 512 PC3200 RAM
- Audigy 2 sound blaster (this was removed when reinstalling XP and still has not been reinstalled)

This is the procedure I followed when reinstalling OS:
- Install XP (restart)
- Install VIA 4in1 (restart)
- Install onboard sound Card (restart)
- Install onboard LAN (restart)
- Install USB 2 (restart)
- Install Directx 9.0c (restart)
- Install ASUS Upgraded/latest drivers (http://www.asus.it/support/download/sele...21_wxp2k.zip~zaqwedc) (I did not install original drivers first)
- Install Doom 3 (or any game would give the same result, e.g. quake 3) (restart).

I have tried the default vid drivers that came with the CD. I have tried the upgraded drivers (see above) and I have tried the latest nVidia Detonator drivers (v61.77) and all give the same result.

I have tried playing with the X2, X4 and X8 settings which my mobo offers.. same result.

I dont know what to do. Please help!

so a basic rundown: games run fine, I cannot exit them without the PC hanging, and I cannot edit the gfx settings without the PC hanging.

Any suggestions?

One question: How powerful is your PSU? The 6800 needs a lot of juice.
