Of course they are open, they make tons of money on weekends. Uhaul will let you drop off a truck/trailer 24 hrs a day at certain locations.

Most rental places are open on Sat. and have a key drop off option for after hours, but if you have to move far or travel on a highway don't get a uhaul because their trucks usually are a POS. ryder/budget will cost the same and you will get a much nicer truck.

1. It depends on the place.

2. Search these forums for "u-haul" - you will find far far far more unpleasant stories than successful endings. There seems to be general agreement that of the available companies, u-haul is the worst.

yeah stay away from Uhaul and their miserable rentals, probably better to just rent a pickup/minivan from rental car places..hehe

Agreed with the other wise posters that are warning you away from Uhaul.

Especially on the weekend at the start of a month, you will have better luck getting someone letting you use their semi for free than getting a truck from uhaul this weekend. Regardless of whether or not you have a reservation.

Oh, and if you somehow do get a truck, it will suck. Call Penske or Ryder or anyone else.

you know for the time it took to open the forums, type out your question and reading the responses you could have opened a phone book and called your local U-haul rep.

ryder is more expensive, but will get you a nicer truck.. i think if you're gonna move just a few miles, just use uhaul.. good luck trying to find a uhaul this weekend.. when i moved, i tried to reserve a week in advance, and i couldnt get one.. i reserved one through budget, but ended up getting a free truck elsewhere.. good luck

If you plan on a week-end or end-of-month, RESERVE IT.

Most places will be out given such a scenario or you will geta broken down beater.

Always get 1 size larger that you anticipate. The effort of packing things in tight will not work well within the time frame of a quick move (unless you have prior experience).

If you have a vehicle that you can put a trailer on,that could be an option.
Less capacity, however, you are not paying for the mileage rate and you may be able to actually find something at the last momemt.

Get a dolly if possible, makes it easier.

Reserving it isn't good enough. The last two people I know that used U-Haul had a reservation, but their truck was double-booked and another party had already taken it.

Not much more that one can do after reserving it, unless putting up the $$ upfront.

I dok now from experience, that verbal promises do not carry weight. $$ talks.
