The title pretty much sums it up; I'm a junior in high school, these aren't ALL the places I'm applying, and things could change, but this is the list thus far, in no particular order:

University of Michigan
University of Iowa
Indiana University
Depauw University
Northern Illinois University
University of Minnesota (St. Paul/Minneapolis)

I guess I'm predictable. :)

Piano Performance will be my recommendation (I've been warned off from Music Ed and Pedagogy is apparently only offered at the graduate level).

Yes, I live in the suburbs of Chicago.

Music? Why aren't you applying to any specific music schools?

a) Those things are harder than hell to get into, they're expensive as hell, they're really far away (hell). Causing them to get even more expensive.

b) I'm a people-person, and want a large and diverse student population. Also, although I doubt this will happen, what if I decide music isn't working out? I'd like to have the option to go other places career-wise, not because I'm expecting to, but just because the option is there. I also just plain ol' want to experience college. And some well-roundedness is good, whereas if I go to a conservatory, no more science or math or anything except music after high school. As inviting as that sounds, I think I might regret that in the long run.

EDIT: despite all this, I am in fact planning at auditioning at a few conservatories (Julliard, Oberlin, Eastman, etc). But that's just for kicks, and if I get into any of em, then I can mull it over.

I graduated from Indiana Univ. two years ago. Great school, I highly recommed it. They have an execellent music program, along with many other top notch programs. The campus is absolutely gorgeous, the women and beautiful and plenty of them them. Bloomington is my home away from home and I've missed it dearly since I've graduated. Definately the best 5 years of my like. It's a great atmosphere and somewhere you would not regret going to.

How about Carnegie Mellon? They have a decent piano program there (my ex is in it) and if you want to pursue something else CMU is pretty decent in all areas
Manhattan school of music is easier to get in, peabody is also good and easier to get in than juilliard and eastman

Its not a bad place but Dekalb sucks. nothing but bars and uhh..super wal-mart.

but hey its not all that bad! we have the corn boil and you get free corn!

but if you go to NIU watch out..the dorms suck and the food there is really bad. its one of the main reasons i transferd to RIT. ugh

nothing to do but go to bars and drink (beer is cheap. i have had er 5 and i spent no more then $20)

Try:

Columbia

Rice

Northwestern

Boston University

for Music. The first three are Ivy or Ivy-caliber schools, so it's a great atmosphere as well. I attend one of them, and they all have great music departments.

Northwestern is no fun, I want to transfer to UCLA or Berkeley. On MLK day I can't go to the post office, but I can go to class, in fact I'm off to Econ 310-1 right now (intermediate microeconomics)

I go to Northern Illinois University right now. I dont really like it all that much. I think the buildings are all very bland and fairly old. I dont think you get a great college feel from the campus. The town of DeKalb is a dump. There really isnt much besides corn, bars, and superwalmart hehe. Like was said earlier the dorms are terrible. They are loud and most of the people there are very inconsiderate and dont care about anyone but themselves. Yes the food is not good at the dorms either, infact its very bad. NIU is baiscally a last resort I would consider if I were you. Unless you live in like Aurora or somewhere close to 88 and wanted to drive to school and live at home that would make it alot better. PM me if you want to know anything else about NIU.
