got a job, now I need to rent a room, how do I start?

Got a job close to Eatontown NJ. I live with the rents by giants stadium. thats only 50 miles but its like 1 hour 20 minutes getting to work and 2 hours getting home because of the traffic. So I would like to rent a room in someone's house for about $400 a month to live there 4 nights a week.

how do I find a room?

I'd normally get an apartment, but I don't want to get locked into a contract, because I could get canned 4 months into the job.

thanks in advance.

anyone under 8 miles from Eatontown NJ want to rent me a room at a reasonable price for 4 nights a week? must have broadband.

hey, it could happen. then how and I going to pay for the rest of the rent if I find a job somehwere else and have to rent somewhere else?

Gotsmack,

I'm in Brick, which is like 20 minutes away from Eatontown.
The main local paper is the Asbury Park Press.
Good Luck.

thanks overkill.

I took a look at the the offerings on the website and found

ASBURY PARK NO-Clean rms from $110/wk. Eff from $170/wk. Cable. 988-2157
haha, asbury park is a really really ghetto area (I'd rather live in Newark) and they still want $440 a month for rent. what is eff? I think this is from an agency.

I'll keep an eye on the calssified section.

anyone else have any other ideas?

Eff= efficiency. Basically one room, often with a kitchenette and a private bathroom.

I looked at craigslist, but I'm out east in NJ, and that is for southern cali.

you can change craigslist to be localized.

Yea but only to some major cities, I live in Corvallis Oregon and the only city I could find in Oregon was Portland.

Actually, the default Craigslist city is San Francisco, which is northern California. 🙂

Here's another pointer: you don't want to be living in a place that rents by the week. It's the equivalent of taking a room in a motel that rents by the hour.

Taking a room in a house does seem like the best idea. I went with a local paper online when I was looking for something similar in the past. Every company that I've worked for (engineering internships and two research companies after school) has helped me to find a place or hired someone for me. Intel went so far as to advertise rooms offered by their own employees.

Can you ask people at your workplace for some tips?
