got a free tablet for mom switching to verizon fios

It has its data plan but me with no phone number want to use its number to post a craigs list ad(a number is required to get verified) but I tried to use the Verizon messenger app with the tablet and it says it needs permission from the owner. Any way to get this permission? Or do I have to call them up? Thanks

(2) Activate GV integration in Hangouts.

(3) Use Hangouts on any mobile device or the Chrome extension or Gmail on the web to send/receive texts on that number.

Bonus:
Use Hangouts to make/receive calls (via VOIP) with that number on your tablet, or on any other device with the app or Chrome extension.

Totally free unless you make international voice calls or want to port an existing number in.
 
About to get the same thing (8.3 GPad LTE) for switching my mom to FIOS. Since it's an LTE tablet and you have to redeem it at a VZW store, do they require you to get it on a data plan? Or can you just walk out with it with absolutely no other purchase? Just need it for her to use wifi at home.

Alternatively, can I hook it up with my existing data allowance in any way (not tethering since it's 2 separate homes/locations)? I barely use my 4G data allowance as it is and would like to share it with that device.

^ they require a 2-year plan.... If you already have a Verizon data-bucket type plan, then it's going to cost you $10/month ($240 for 2 years) and will share your existing data bucket

It won't work for a non-data bucket style plan (eg grandfathered unlimited).

(inserts how this is still a rip-off... "Free tablet", but you have to pay $240 total in service... works out only if you want a subsidized tablet with your existing data bucket)
