Got a fishing ticket.

I got a fishing ticket a couple of months ago and I had to go to court this month and so I went. When I got there, there was no indication of where I needed to go since there is no fishing department. They told me that I had to get in line for criminal department. WTF?? All I did was get one fish over the limit and all of them were intended for my landlord!!
Anyhow I never got the fine since my name wasnt on the roster or anywhere there. I went to the D.A's office and they searched for me and I wasnt listed. Looks like the guy who wrote me a ticket never turned it in.
Pheww!

Yah..those fishing fines can be very hefty. A thousand bucks for not having a fishing license etc.

The thing is that since fishing penalties are labeled in criminal that means that the 3 strikes law applies here as well.

YUCK!!!

A couple years ago my best friend's dad nearly got busted for not having his fishing license. The officer could have confiscated everything he had with him - which consisted of a small fortune in fishing gear. Fortunately, all of the rest of us (my family, my friend, and his mom) all had our licenses. Officer must have been in a good mood, because he let the guy off with a warning. Of course, the fact that my dad told the officer that he was a visitor and the man himself pretended not to be able to speak much English - he's Italian, but he's lived here for decades - probably helped, too 😛.

hasn't turned it in YET. better not get caught again.

Well you cant help it. Have you read the regulation book for ocean fishing by the dept of fish and wildgame? You have to have a lawyer read it to you since the info is so hard to extract.
Right now in calif, you cant catch greenlings and that wasnt the rule last year. This year you can only keep 5 perch instead of 10 which was last year.
Its easy to get a ticket if you dont know the rules. The thing is that the DFG people havent even released the 2003 regulation books to the tackle shops. You have to download it from their website in pdf format.
Fishing is getting complicated nowadays.

Yahh...they told me that the DFG warden has 1 year to submit the ticket. I have my fingers crossed that he doesnt.

it seems like such a pain that they have to fine you and make you buy licenses and things, but the rangers have to get paid somehow. i appreciate what they do, so i buy my licenses and obey the laws.

Theres a reason why I fish on private land and never on Forest Preserves.
Nothing beats stocking (the natural fish around the area that might not be in that pond at that time I.E. bass, yellow perch, northern pike that I tank raised) the ponds then catching them again.🙂

Trust me, I obey the laws too, I never keep an undersized dungee crab or sturgeon etc.. I just didnt know the limit that I could keep. I always saw many people at the pier keeping more than what I caught that day so I thought it was okay. But the books had changed and I got knocked for it.
