I lost a piece of a very old filling so I went to the Dentist to get it replaced.

It didn't bother me before, except that food would get stuck in there...

Now, it hurts. It's been a week and 1 day and I still cannot chew with that one tooth. (moler)

Is it normal?

Yep. I had a filling done 2 weeks ago and mine's still tender and very sensitive to cold/heat. Takes awhile to get back totally well.

I can't chew on mine, either, and pretty much the same story for all my other fillings, too.

As long as it's not hurting all the time.

Good to hear!

It doesn't hurt all the time. Only when I chew with it by mistake, or when I drink something cold.

I haven't called the Dentist because he never answers the phone. An old lady does, and when she puts someone on hold, it is very likely that she forgets to come back to that person...

You now have two reasons to find a new dentist.

I ignored it for a while, never got better.

Now I'm off next week to get my porcelain crown after the root canal on that tooth because I ignored it for too long.

I too had a sensitive tooth after getting a filling (honestly, I have no idea if the sensitive tooth was the one I got the filling in...)
Went to dentist, was told it's just a sensitive tooth, got some stuff for it, all better. :p

However, the same area is hurting again, and I have to go back. My guess is another cavity in the same area... :(

First post in like...a month...

I don't know, but when I had pains on a filling because of chewing it was actually cracked.
A little sensitivity due to cold/hot I can see, but from pressure seems a bit weird.

Why not just drop by and see if he has a minute to take a peek at it.

I've had some fillings hurt for over 3 weeks then it went away. Just pop some Ibprophin or something.

I got something like 12 fillings done. And none of them hurt at all afterwards. They told me any pain and discomfort would most likely be caused by a filling that doesn't completely seal off the tooth and it would have to get redone. I'd see if you could at least mention it with the dentist and get a checkup scheduled. But that is just me.

The closer he had to drill to the nerve to clean out the old filling, the longer it will be sensitive. I had one replaced last year that took almost two months to totally recover.
It is fine now though.
