with a 100" screen from elite screens. The first movie I fired up was the 3d owl movie, Legends of Ga'Hoole. Epic movie in 3D, so much eye candy in every scene.

Kinda bummed my receiver wouldn't pass a 3d signal, so I had to buy a splitter. And i have to figure out a way to rid of the wrinkle in the lower left hand corner. Other than that the pq exceeded my expectations of what a projector would look like

Time to watch some football today on my new 100" screen

edit

So I couldn't get the wrinkles out and couldn't return it because i bought it on clearance. Apparently i received an old model that doesn't use tension bars along the side of the fabric. So i just went on amazon and bought the same one as purebeast. Although it's not the 3D material of the old one, the screen came out perfect and now I am very happy. Now i'm just deciding if i should pull the trigger on the oppo 105

Here's the new pic of it in action with Avatar 3D

It looks to me like you have wrinkles around the entire border of the screen. A properly assembled screen -even a cheap one- shouldn't have any wrinkles in it. If you bought the screen pre-assembled from a retailer (you mentioned Elite Screens) I'd make them fix it.

Are those 805 Diamonds brainhulk? If so, how long have you had them?

no, they are the regular 805's. I purchased them right before the diamond's came out. These were being going to be discontinued and I wanted to grab them before they were gone. (didn't want to pay for diamonds at the time)

as for the wrinkles, I am still trying to work on it. I think the tension springs are too tight...so I need to figure something out. I may have to call elite screens and ask them for advice...

my elite screen came today and if it looks like that after i build it i am going to be pretty pissed off. no offense but that looks pretty terrible. all of the edges look messed up. hopefully you can fix it or get a replacement.

i also had a light colored wall/ceiling that i've just finished up painting to help out with less reflections and help the contrast. does the light colored walls/ceiling bother you at all?

this is the exact one i got.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o00_s01_i00

$315.

i believe the one that he has in the OP is the Elite ezFrame. the one i linked to is the Sable frame.

i did a bit of research on the ezFrame vs. Sable, and the ONLY difference is the actual frame. they both use the exact same screen materal.

the price of the 120" Sable was $315, and the price of the 120" ezFrame was $485.

here is a link that shows a little difference in the actual frames.

http://www.elitescreens.com/index.p...ew=article&id=478&catid=21&Itemid=172&lang=en

i did some google searches too to find real world examples of how they look, and from a distance you can't really tell any difference.

EDIT:

here is a pic of someone's installed sable frame.

http://images.blu-ray.com/htgallery/70700.jpg

so as you can see it is tough to tell a difference between the one in the OP and the sable frame. again, i'm not 100% sure the OP is an ezFrame, but based on the looks it is the ezFrame style.

i'll have pics of my 120" sable screen up by this weekend as well, with the paint job that you pchopped as well.

Why do people even buy screens?

Isn't there a paint that you can buy that will do as good/if not better job?

How about Monoprice screens?

not even gonna answer your first question because that is just a dumb question.

but yes there is paint you can get. there is a whole DIY forum over on AVS dedicated to it.

monoprice screens are pretty good from the research i've gathered. their shipping sucks though. it was like $170 estimated shipping for a screen from them.

as an entry level screen though i think i'll be happy with the elite one. i mean you can spend upwards of $10k on a screen if you really want to.

Why is it a dumb question? Paint seems like a much easier and cheaper solution to a screen.

purbeast, did you ever consider going the DIY route? When I was doing my research 1.5-2 yrs ago, the Silver Fire DIY formulas had enough gain to challenge a $1K elite screen. I went with the DIY route and spent about $100 - still very happy with my sprayed screen

how is painting easier than a hanging a screen?

not everyone penny pinches like you do.

if paint is a better solution why do theaters (where movies are produced for) use screens?

for my first time screen i wanted to just get an entry level screen. i don't really want to bother with any DIY stuff right now, i just want it to work lol.

additionally i'm not really worried about the gain because my screen is going to be in a light controlled environment, so the cinewhite (which is a gain of 1.0 or 1.1 i forget) should be fine for me.

through my screen research, i still am having trouble what more expensive screens will give over lower priced screens, other than gain. i know screen material is different as well but just not exactly sure what the differences will be.

It's not about penny pinching, it's about what makes sense and is cost effective.

Painting is maybe not easier but surely sounds lot cheaper (again assuming you have a perfect wall). Since most people build home theater rooms anyways, I don't see a reason why the wall wouldn't be perfectly flat.

if paint is a better solution why do theaters (where movies are produced for) use screens?

Because it's a business and they make their money back regardless?

yea and for me, purchasing a screen is much more cost effective when you factor in time, and time = money.

and your question of 'why do people even buy screens' didn't even have any 'cost effective' connotation at all to it. it's just a dumb question that a quick google search can answer it. it's kind of common sense too as to why one would prefer a screen over painting. the way is was worded in your post it sounded arrogant as well.

from your post history on here i can tell you are extremely frugal and careful with what you spend your money on, which is okay and i have no problems with that. but not everyone is like that.

you mentioned your basement will be more of an all purpose room as opposed to a dedicated theater. Im assuming in an all purpose room, you'd like to have some lights on in the back area. If so, a screen with gain of 1.0 might wash out. But you already bought the screen....lean it up against the wall and throw an image on it with an acceptable amount of ambient lighting you feel would be ok with you and your guests. See how you like it. If you feel the cinewhite screen isnt cutting it, I'd suggest going DIY. You can even pay MississippiMan from AV forums to come paint your screen professionally! The silver fire paint mix has metallic paint as part of the mixture - so it bounces a lot more light back to your eyes than a regular white or grey screen. Only caveat is that you can't roll that paint on - has to be sprayed on.

yea initially it is going to be more of a tv/game/theater room, however we may put a pool table down in the back area just not 100% sure yet. but with the controlled lighting in the other area i'm not too sure how much of an issue it will be. additionally the panasonic 8000 is pretty damn bright.

but basically, i won't know until i try something out, and since my primary focus for now (as in at the current time) is to have it for a theater, i think the "normal" gain screen is a good starting point.

I put dark window film on my windows so it's pretty good in the day

i'm talking about reflections onto the ceiling from the screen not the windows.

it never bothered me, but now that you mentioned it i'll probably be looking for it and end up fixating upon it...

I'm thinking about just buying acoustic panels and putting them on my wall rather than painting though

haha sorry, i was just wondering because that is one thing that many enthusiasts say is necessary - a dark room. it is mainly just because the light colored walls will light up the room with the reflections, causing you to lose contrast and making the image look more washed out, which makes sense. but to what degree i personally don't know.

but hearing about it was enough to get me painting my ceiling and walls haha.

brainhulk, i just built my screen and did it all by myself, and it came out perfectly with no wrinkles or anything.

from the looks of yours, it looks like you did not clip the clips in the correct order that they tell you to. so i think re-clipping yours would probably fix the wrinkles you have in yours. my build actually went extremely smoothly. and this thing is MASSIVE!
