Got a DVD player for Christmas, What movies to buy???

Yeah, if you've got the speaker setup, go for anything with Dolby Digital(AC3)/DTS. Some good suggestions IMO are the Matrix, Saving Private Ryan, and T2.😉

Yeah, forgot about Gladiator. Anything that's loud is thumbs-up for guys. Movies like Gone in 60 Seconds, Lethal Weapon, Hard Rain, the Patriot and others will leave you deaf, which is a good thing.:Q

Basically everything everyone said. And porn, porn is good quality on a DVD. Actually just kidding I wouldn't know unfortunately I don't own any (too expensive). As for actual suggestions
The Crow
Silence of the Lambs
Seven (platinum edition and go to Walmart for this it's cheapest there)

Fight Club!!

Patriot
Braveheart

and a personal fav of mine-- Boogie Nights

Then buy all the Kevin Smith movies (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma [wait for the two disc set... it'll be out very soon]) and have a marathon.

DVD is so fun!

Pulp Fiction

I assume since you have Shawshank you like movies that have graphic scenes depicting rough, manly lovin'. 😉 j/k Seriously though, it is great on DVD. If you have a DVD player that supports chapter shuffle you can go in and create your own version of PF... who knows, it might actually be more conherent than the original. 🙂

The Matrix

Absolute must for any DVD library. Period.

And basically all the other DVDs mentioned above... well, with the possible exception of Boogie Nights. I just didn't care for that flick.

I shelled out $8000 for a home theatre system for my rec room. Saving Private Ryan was the first DVD that I purchased. It was absolutely amazing. Braveheart on DVD was also a excellent experience.

Just watched Gladiator again yesterday - A MUST
Braveheart - Gets better every viewing
Patriot
Saving Private Ryan.

Any action movie that you would want to see in a big theater. I think Woodie Allen movies would be a waste on DVD even though I do like him.

Any body like Rob Roy? Never saw it on DVD

T2 - So many new features. Besides, it's T2!
Fight Club - Lots of neat extras as well.
Matrix - Not many extras but a must have.
Braveheart

ANY criterion DVD. I have their releases of Armageddon, Hard Boiled, and Brazil. They make the best DVD releases hands down. Very expensive, but thanks to a couple of DVD deals sites I paid about $30 for each. 🙂

Another good move to test drive the sound system is Glory. Plenty of good old fashioned cannon shots and other gun play. Good movie to boot. That's the movie I usually put in if I want to piss off the neighbors.

The Matrix is a must have. Beyond that, any movie that you enjoy is good to have on DVD.

Ohh yah, maybe Gladiator! No you pervert, not the porno version! Some people just can't keep their minds out of the gutter.😀

Got 2 words for you, Blockbuster Video. You can get some great pre-viewed DVDs for like 11-13 dollars. And dont worry aboutthem being scratched you can return them before 30 days for a refund. I got Green Mile(sounds great) lightning scared the crap out of my Girlfriend🙂 I payed 9 dollars for it. Also got sixth sense for 9.00. HEHE Top gun is pretty good on DVD and MI2 and Mission Impossible are also goodones on DVD. Get a Sony sub. I payed 150.00 for a 12-inch powered Sony sub at best-buy. IT was open box but it was 200.00 originally. Great quality at that price. Most 12" Powered cost 300+.

Have fun!!
