Got a Droid DNA! What should I do with it?

Honestly. I love this phone. I am already watching The Walking Dead in 1080p with my Dish Anywhere app and moving some of my music collection over to it with AirDroid. I guess the purpose for this thread is just to ask some other Droid or DNA users what else I can do with this phone.

Foremost, I want to play some games on my phone but I find almost all of the games in the Google Play store are not my style. What I am really looking to do at this point is play some old school games and I see they sell emus on the store, but I have some concerns about that.

First, I cannot stand using the screen controls on these phones. Would I need to root the phone in order to use a PS3 controller or 360 controller? I have both.

Second, would I need to be rooted to get the games to play on the phone or can I just move the files over with AirDroid or something?

Other than that, is there anything you would recommend for my phone or Droid? I am coming over from Windows Phone so this is pretty new to me. Thanks for any help/tips you offer.

aw how cute, I think op just got his first 4+" phone :D

snes emulators rule. you can get roms for free online at various places. I think the easiest way to get a controller working is a Bluetooth one like the ps controller.

there are free emulators on play store. you can use bluetooth to connect a Wii/PS3/Xbox controller to your phone, then use the emulator to assign functions to your controller.

Quite honestly, I would return it and wait for the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One to launch. Only problem is that might not happen until end of May.

Ignore this advice.

Already did. This phone is all that I could ask for and more. I will check out Puzzles and Dragons, right now the only games I have are Chess and SG: DeadZone.

Would you recommend the free ones or are the pay ones better? Also, which emus have you guys found to be the best?

Nah I had an HD7, it was pretty sweet but WP is way behind and doesn't have a lot of the apps we needed.

yeah. android even with its faults is pretty much kick ass. I love how much random development happens on it. who knew that if you keep things fairly open source people would flock to it...

I used Mame4droid for arcade ROMS. Your best bet is getting a GameKlip (www.gameklip.com) and use your PS3 controller.

I had a SNES emu and played it quite a bit, but can't remember it's name.

GTA3 and GTA: Vice City are available in the play store, and play perfectly with the PS3 controller. (On my Galaxy Nexus, but I'm sure you'll be fine)

Nice Bill Hicks avatar. That link is dead. Do I need to root to use Mame4Droid?

Battery life on the Droid DNA is pretty good. It's seems better than my wife's Samsung GS3.
It seems they just released a update to fix the sim card issues. I had the sim card issue, but took it back to the store where they replaced the sim card and I have never had an issue since. This phone also has an issue with Wifi dropping from time to time. Let's hope this update fixes it? Other than that, this phone is pretty amazing - It's fast and the build quality is very good. Oh yeah the screen is drop dead gorgeous. It almost looks like a display phone :D

My wifi never drops and I use it around 80-90% of the time since I am at home a lot. I never had the sim card issue, maybe because I just got it and they already fixed that error? I agree with everything else you said, though. My videos from Dish Anywhere look astounding.

Battery life for me is very impressive. I haven't charged it in 2 days and it still has most of the charge. The standby works wonder for keeping it charged. Of course, I don't use it constantly so your mileage may vary.

As for the next best thing, you're right about that and the next best thing is always 3 months away so why bother worrying about it? Get what you want, when you want it, for a good deal. I paid $50 for my phone.

First of all congrats on your new device!!!

Depends on the console. Sometimes its worth paying.

For example, if you want PSX games but in HD, this is worth the money:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.emulator.fpse&hl=en

For PSX I use my tablet's built-in Sixaxis support, but if you root (whole other debate) there is this app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller&hl=en

This is the best SNES emualtor IMHO and its free:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.explusalpha.Snes9xPlus&hl=en

For SNES games I use a Wiimote classic controller connected by this app (no root needed):

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ccpcreations.android.WiiUseAndroid&hl=en

If the DNA supports USB2GO, you should be able to plug in a PS3 controller with a USB2GO cable and mini<>micro USB adapter without rooting.

I will definitely check into that, PS3 is my favorite controller. Thanks Rad.
