Got a Dell 2707WFP, first LCD ever, have some questions

Hi!

First post for me. I have a new monitor, the 2707 and I went to this from a sony GDM FW900. The monitor seems really nice, inside vista here, everything looks so good and sharp it is obviously better then my old sony, even the black web pages for instance look black.... however, inside HL2 especially, in dark areas, even with the gama down all the way and my brightness and contrast levels pushed down, it looks like a shiny gray almost, and it bugs my eyes.

Is this normal? Maybe just a HL2 issue? It's really obvoius, and bugs me... and I have 20 days to decide if I want to keep this!!!
 
Yes, I know they can only do so-so when it comes to black, but this is to the point where it is anoying... btw, it isn't as bad in prey.... I need to install some other games to check it out....
