Got a damned speeding ticket yesterday............

Was on my way to Charlotte from my home just above Savannah, GA, yesterday afternoon.....travelling up I-77 and two miles from the NC/SC border, I get pulled over by a SC state trooper on a motorcycle. Said I was going 86 in a 60mph zone (speed limit had just dropped from 70 to 60.)

Oh well, guess I'll just pay the darned thing.....glad he was a decent sort, though. Wrote me for 69 in a 60 instead of the 26mph over I was doing...and I was probably doing more than that just before he clocked me. Had been doing around 92 just before.......but the trailer I was pulling didn't like the change in road surface too much so I was coasting down a bit.

C'est la vie..........such is life.

:cookie: ?

wait he wrote you up as 69 in a 60? get it tossed out, hell, i know 3 or 4 people here in NC who have gone to pay a ticket, get in the guilty line they start, and just wind up paying court costs after they knock it down to 9 over the limit anyway, maybe you can get off so easy when you go back down there

Hell with that, fight it. Why risk points on your license and increased insurance rates? Also, if you want to easily beat the ticket, pay any mechanic a few bucks to say he did some work on your spedometer. The judge will have no choice but to dismiss the ticket.

In Georgia, my home state, they don't put points on your license for speeding until you hit 15 over.

And this is my first ticket in almost 20 years.........

I can easily do 100 with my boat trailer and the Escalade. The trailer is solid as a rock even at those speeds.

...

I'm pretty sure 69 in a 60 is still speeding, still a ticketable offense, and alone isn't grounds for being thrown out.

The trailer is a dual-axle 18 ft. utility trailer with better tires than most of your cars probably have (some new 14" radials)......and I'm using a weight-equalizing hitch with it....absolutely no sway at all. Of course, the electric brakes on the trailer help to so, too. I was taking two transmissions back to the boneyard they were obtained from for replacement....not too heavy, but didn't want to get the Balzer's interior dirty and wanted to be able to tow at speed, so the little utility trailer we have for junking (a small 12 ft. single-axle) stayed at home.

Not all trailers are dangerous at speed, unlike those single-axle U-Hauls you see swaying down the interstate at 50mph.

The big dual-axle car trailers from U-Haul are pretty stable too. Towed my old 914 from NH to OH on one with a V8 Explorer and it was really very nice even with a basic class V hitch and only a surge brake on the trailer.

but you can't stop for sh!t and if you have to maneuver you're fvcked. of course you're the best driver in the world with a trailer so this doesn't apply to you.
