Got a Credit Report, where's the score?

Original Question: I got a credit report when I was 18 and the only thing on it was my college loans. I have gotten a few charge cards (JC Penny, Sears, Lazarus) and a credit card from Providian since then. How long after you have opened a credit account will they show up on your credit report? I only got them to build my credit (paying off small balances).

Some of them I have paid on for the last year or two and some of them I have only been paying on for like 2 months.

New Question: I just got a $9 credit report at Equifax.com, and it all looks good.... but there isn't a score anywhere! Last time it was like 700+ (forget the actual number), but I wanna know what my score is! Do I have to get a different kind of credit report to get an actual Score?

Many credit reporting services require you to specifically request a score (typically with a fee).

I believe Equifax is that way, costs a few $ more to have a score calculated.

I needed the: Score Power® in partnership with Fair, Isaac
Improve your credit standing and become a better credit negotiator. We provide your FICO® credit score - the score lenders use most to qualify you for credit, plus your current Equifax Credit Report?. $12.95

Wonder if I can upgrade mine? :D doubt it... I WANT A SCORE!

Isn't the FICO how they determine your credit history "in 30 seconds" like for small loans and credit cards?

Is there a service for like $5 that gives you the FICO score only? :D

Last beacon score I saw for me and my wife was 930-950

Easiest way to get that there is to:

Pay off a few cars

Make extra payments on your mortage

PAY OFF YOUR STUDENT LOANS!!!

Keep your credit card debt down (we may have $1500 in CC debt)

and Pay your bills on time.

Nope, no way to upgrade that I could find. I made the same mistake once, had to buy the damn thing over again.

I doubt your score will be very high if you had those cards for less than a year. It took me over a year of on-time payments before I even hit 600s.

yes to the first part, it's based on your credit history but it isn't included in the regular credit report. No idea on the second part.

I'll dig through some docs later for the one we got when we refinaced the house(6mon-1yr).

Found this: "The main determinants of a credit grade are based on your credit and debt ratio. Beacon scores range from 400 - 844; while, FICO scores range between 350 - 880."

Creditors will also give you a score ranging from 600-1000 to determine how well you rate as an investment.

Thats explains the 900+ score :p

In most states you qualify by law to get a free credit report (including FICO score) once a year, so before going out and paying for it, check to see if your state qualifies. Call the credit reporting agency's number for instructions on how to get your free report.

By the way if you have a Providian credit card I believe they're working on starting a policy where you get a free credit report curtisy of Providian ever few months (you might have to request it though). The reason they're doing this is that Providian tend to be more willing to take more risky applicants, so they're hoping that if people can check their score more frequently, it'd help motivate them to be more responsible.

Correct, some states offer a free credit report every 12 months.

Thanks for the link, Rossman. That's actually a shorter list of states than I thought. For some reason I thought it was the majority of states instead of minority. Oh well, just get a Providian credit card. By this summer, hopefully you can get a free credit report every so often anyway.
