Got a copy of Vista Ultimate as a Present.

I want to install Vista on a separate hard drive from the one I have XP installed. I want to be able to change the boot drive in my bios to use either operating system. The hard drive in question has two partitions. One partition has nothing on it. Can I install Vista on the partition with nothing on it without damaging the info on the other partition? Please excuse if this question has been asked before as I can never get the search engine on this site to work worth a darn. Thanks for any response.

Just make sure you're installing to the right partition and that it is set primary, it shouldn't mess with the other partitions.

Not to Hijack ricleo2's thread, but does anyone have suggestions for tweaks once Vista Ultimate is installed? I've heard about some UAC stuff, security pop ups etc that can be annoying.

Excellent question. Anybody?

IMHO keep UAC on, it will probably bug you when you are installing all of your software but once you have a stable installation it really is not annoying on a daily basis. The first thing you should do after installing drivers would be to get SP1.

This is more or less a personal preference, but I found that modifying the indexing locations and disabling the automatic defrag was helpful in reducing the constant HD access.
