It was a little scared at first and wouldn't let me pet him, but just a few hours later he took a nap on my lap.

His name is megabyte, mega for short.

I got him at the north central animal center.

That's great, cats are fun. I miss my cat, had to put her down in November a few days short of 18 years old, so basically had her half my life. Going to probably get 2 at some point, probably in spring, but depends what comes up. Ideally will be better if I wait until fall though since I plan to do some camping and don't want to get one only to leave it alone so soon.

Oh yes, when they are kittens handle their feet al lot and I mean a lot. Also clip their nails a little bit several times a week. Makes life much easier as they age.

I love dogs and cats but god damn after hearing x number of stories from friends and family and seeing various pet houses I'm a hard no at this point on pets at the moment (outside of a few shrimp, fish, and aquatic snails in a living tank) cause holy crap pets are tough on stuff in general.

Got to watch electric cables, kittens do like to chew them. You'll want to make sure there's no cords within reach that are live. Especially smaller cords like lamps. Big cords are harder to get their teeth through, but still want to play it safe.

If this is your first pet / cat, you have a lot of reading to do. Give the lil buddy lots of hugs.

I already shiver at the inevitable property damages, poop/pee on the floor which will still happen despite how trained they are, behavior etc. Just brace yourself for the hard parts of owning a cat.

Definitely save up for the inevitable vet bills too.

Dry kibble is better for your cats teeth than wet ones. Also avoid big names such as Purina. Stick with boutique brands that list meat as first few ingredients instead of corn/soy.
