Got a Canadian check - now what?

I guess this is kind of a dumb question, but I've never run across it before. I just got a personal check from someone in Canada for $15.00. Is it $15.00 US or $15.00 Canadian? I want to deposit it in an ATM but I will need to know if it's $15.00 US or $428,240,245,126,382.94 US if it is $15.00 CDN.

I thought Canadian currency value went way up so it's like $11 now? =D
