The company has been around for awhile. It sounds like a good job? I have heard of companys doing checks, but never making the job seeker pay for it.

I know of a few CSR type companies who make the employees pay for the initial checking/uniform (yah, some are required)/etc. The reason is that the turnover for these CSRs is so great that the company would lose their arse if they had to pay for it.

When I got hired for my current job, I didn't pay a dime for urinalysis, security clearance, and all other process of getting employment.

My recent security clearance costed my company approximately 60k, the process took 6 months to complete the background investigation.

So, what I'm trying to say is that $38 wouldn't even cover the documents/programs for the security clearance request.

It will cover credit check and that is about it. Again, credit check is something employer should pay also.

Think about it. Why should a perspective employee, who will get nothing if rejected by the company, has to pay for the process of employment.

Never heard of it before. But I've never been in your industry before, either. If that's how the company treats their prospective employees, imagine how they treat the people they actually hire!

Whoa, thanks for the tip! We get stacks of resumes which I don't bother to look at - I never thought about trying to make a few bucks off them.

If I were you, I'd get on the phone and start calling everybody you know and see if you can find someone connected with the company, and see if that is legit. It might be. Now, do they continue to treat you that way once you're hired?

You shouldn't have to pay ANYTHING for a hiring process. IMHO, the company should pay your entire way in. $38?! Cheapasses

My company works the same way, $40 for the credit/police check.
Only if you want to be a cashier/manager, tech's and sales don't have to
