got a big problem here

plain ans simple, i will start my computer, but i will not get any picture. i have a 6800 gt. i even took the card out the agp slot and hooked it to the igp. still no picture, can anyone please help me out?

you need to give us more info. do you hear the windows logon sound? are you sure the computer is booting up? did you swap in a different vid card? are you using a monitor?tv? lcd?

opps my bad... all i did was just clean my heatsink. i do not here windows boot up at all. i do here one beep though, and i know thats a good sign. i dont think my card took a shit. well anyway if you guys need more info let me know

lemme guess since you are not filling us in....
you removed the heatsink off your vid card and cleaned it. You reinstalled it and....problem. well, you have either not installed it properly, you removed it when the chip was still hot and it fried, or you sprayed that super cool spray on it while it was on and shorted your mobo. what heatsink?

it was the heat sink off of my cpu, do you think its a mobo problem?

it is 99% a cpu problem. take it off and inspect the pins. reinsert it IF it looks good and carefully put the heatsink on properly. try again. you likely disrupted the seating of the cpu or the cpu and heatsink are not making good contact. if it gets too hot, it'll instantly shut down.

the thing is i didnt take the cpu out i just took the heatsink off. at first when i put the heatsink back on, my computer would turn on and then off in like 2 secs, so i seated it again and now the computer stays running, is it still a cpu problem or motherboard?

just check the cpu pins to make sure. if they look fine, then you are likely not putting the heatsink on right. is it an amd or intel?

its athlon 2500 xp , when you mean pins, you mean the ones on top or bottom? i mean i took that heatsink off many times and never had any problems...

I don't think he would get any post beeps at all if his CPU was not seated correctly or fried.
At least that is what I have found in the past. You get absolutely nothing. No beeps, no BIOS.

Because I believe your quest to make your system faster has prompted you to try anything you can possibly think of, including BIOS settings, try this:

Shut down your PC. remove power cord. Locate the "Clear CMOS" jumper on your motherboard and use it. If you have no such jumper, locate your CMOS battery and remove it for 30 seconds. Reinstall the CMOS battery.

This will reset your factory defaults. Sometimes folks try too many things at one time and it is difficult backtrack and know what you have to undo.

The single post beep means there is hope.
